Position title: Kavli Institute for Theoretical Physics (KITP) Permanent Member Salary range:
A reasonable estimate for this position is $110,000 - $170,000 at the Associate level and $120,000 - $350,000 at the Professor level. Tenured Application Window Open date: October 29, 2024 Next review date: Friday, Jan 10, 2025 at 11:59pm (Pacific Time) Final date: Monday, Jun 30, 2025 at 11:59pm (Pacific Time) Position description The Kavli Institute for Theoretical Physics (KITP) at the University of California, Santa Barbara seeks applications for a Permanent Member with an anticipated start of Fall 2025. The KITP contributes to all areas of theoretical physics through its programs, conferences, and the research of the permanent members, postdoctoral scholars and graduate fellows. The finalist recommended for hire will be offered a joint appointment as a member of the KITP, and as a tenured ladder faculty member of the University of California, Santa Barbara's Physics Department. All fields of theoretical physics are being considered. Duties of a Permanent Member are to carry out research, provide scientific leadership for the Institute, and mentor KITP's early-career scientists. The University is especially interested in candidates who can contribute to the diversity and excellence of the academic community through research, teaching and service as appropriate to the position. A PhD in Physics or a closely allied field at the time of application. Preferred qualifications
Preferred applicants will be in a faculty (or research equivalent) position at the time of application, have a demonstrated record of outstanding research in theoretical physics, highly active current or near-term research program, demonstrated ability to mentor early career scientists, record of teaching, and demonstrated commitment to intellectual leadership within the discipline.
