Job Summary:



The Division of Gastroenterology at the University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus is seeking an Entry Laboratory Sciences Professional for basic research in a laboratory studying mechanisms of fibrosis and inflammation. This position will perform experimental/technical laboratory work related to investigating basic mechanisms of gastrointestinal diseases including Crohn's disease and ulcerative colitis. This position will also share responsibilities in maintaining lab cleanliness, inventory, organization of lab space, and maintaining detailed records of research performed. Regular meetings with a principal investigator within the Mucosal Inflammation Program will be scheduled for the purpose of progress updates and mentoring.

The successful candidate will be a part of a team that includes supportive research personnel (regulatory, budget, coordinators) and medical personnel all led by the principal investigator and the GI division research leadership. This position requires an ability to work independently, but collaboratively, have attention to detail, and be able to maintain organized protocol documentation and data.

Key Responsibilities:



  • Collaborate with and support Principal Investigators (PI) and other stakeholders with laboratory and research functions.
  • Technical laboratory work related to inflammatory bowel disease including biochemical analysis, quantitative PCR, cell culture, ELISA, western blot, tissue histology and staining.
  • Cell and tissue culture including growth, development, and maintenance of intestinal organoids and primary human and murine cells.
  • examining inflammation and fibrosis-related signaling by intestinal stromal and epithelial cells.
  • Implementation of schedule methodology, timeline, and lab book maintenance.
  • Collecting, recording, analyzing, and presenting data.
  • Support analytical testing process using standard lab support knowledge in the collection and review of conditions, including preserving samples, completing sample preparation, documenting, and communicating results.

Onsite - this role is expected to work onsite and is located in Aurora, CO.

Qualifications:



Minimum Qualifications:



  • Bachelor's degree in biology, molecular biology, chemistry, or related field.


A combination of education and related technical/paraprofessional experience may be substituted for the bachelor's degree on a year for year basis.

Applicants must meet minimum qualifications at the time of hire.

Preferred Qualifications:



  • Previous experience in basic science laboratory.
  • Experience in cell culture.
  • Experience with using mouse models of disease.
  • Experience with next generation sequencing techniques such as single cell sequencing, single nucleus sequencing, and ATAC sequencing.


Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:



  • Knowledge of basic laboratory techniques including safety procedures and techniques.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both in writing and orally.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees at all levels throughout the institution.
  • Outstanding customer service skills.
  • Demonstrated commitment and leadership ability to advance diversity and inclusion.
  • Knowledge of basic human anatomy, physiology, and medical terminology.
  • Ability to interpret and master complex research protocol information.
  • Excellent organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to multi-task.
  • Ability to work in a team environment within the research lab on techniques and methods.
  • A high level of proficiency with computers which will include the use of Microsoft Access, Excel, Outlook, Word, Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop, and other University and Departmental systems as required.

Anticipated Pay Range:



The starting salary range (or hiring range) for this position has been established as $45,000 - $57,240.

The above salary range (or hiring range) represents the University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting. This position may be eligible for overtime compensation, depending on the level.
