The Salvation Army Mission: The Salvation Army, an international movement, is an evangelical part of the universal Christian church. Its message is based on the Bible. Summary/Primary Purpose: This position protects, guides, stimulates, and helps the children in our programs. This position shares the responsibility of developing our programs and program procedures. This position becomes counselor, teacher, spiritual leader, confidante, and role model.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:



  • Assist with homework and tutoring program.
  • Follow up with teachers and parents to ensure that the student completes necessary homework assignments.
  • Provide supervision for the children in the program.
  • Enforce all rules and fair discipline among program participants.
  • Report any accidents/incidents to the director and complete the proper forms.
  • Responsible for the set up and take down of games and equipment used for activities.
  • Responsible for transporting children in The Salvation Army vans and enforcing safety rules.
  • Positively interact with volunteers and visitors.
  • Responsible for writing receipts and collecting money from program fees & concessions.
  • Assist in planning and implementing Community Center programs.
  • Assist during seasonal events.
  • Responsible for cleaning up after meals and youth activities.
  • Specific task of day camp support for 90 days or less during the summer.
  • Attend corps events & programs, on occasional nights/weekends.
  • Driving is an essential aspect of this position.
  • All other duties as assigned.


Supervisory Responsibilities: To supervise all youth in The Salvation Army (TSA) programs.

Education and/or Experience: High School diploma or General Education Degree (GED).

Qualifications: The requirements listed below are representative of the minimal knowledge, skill, and/or ability required for this position.



  • Ability to be flexible and able to work on multiple projects or tasks simultaneously.
  • Intermediate skills in Microsoft software to include Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Access. As well as the ability to access payroll, timekeeping and personal data via a web-based system.
  • Administrative skills include utilization of standard office equipment, data entry, 10-key, attention to details and filing.
  • Good communication skills both written and spoken, and ability to maintain effective working relationships.
  • Demonstrated ability to handle confidential matters.


Other Qualifications: Must pass all applicable background checks. Must possess a valid driver's license from the state in which you reside. Must be approved through The Salvation Army Fleet Safety Program to drive either a Salvation Army or personal vehicle on Salvation Army business. Must successfully complete Safe from Harm training within 90 days of hire, as established by The Salvation Army.

Physical Requirements: The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions. Must be able to remain active in supervising youth. Must be able to lift 10-20 pounds. Must be mentally prepared to deal with the challenges elementary- and middle-school children present.

Working Conditions: The majority of the workday will be in a mixed environment including offices and other program spaces. In addition, this position may be exposed to indoor and outdoor work areas and locations that may be considered moderately loud in nature.
