Welder/Stenciler

Arc welds ferrous materials by use of electric arc process in all positions per AWS D15.1 and in compliance with prescribed codes and specifications. Performs tests, repairs changes, does improvements and conversions to railcar parts and assemblies.

The hourly rate for this position is $27.14 while in training plus $0.65 for shift diffrential. This is a 2nd shift position 2:00PM-10:00PM.

Welder

* Moves, sets up and adjusts equipment and selects rod to perform work assigned.
* Prepares surface to be welded; bums, gauges, fits, tacks and welds as necessary to complete repair. (Example: Splices, patches, shims, cracks)
* Locates and tests areas to be welded for leaks by use of soap suds and air rechecking as necessary. (Example: coils)
* Finishes weld by removing slag and grinding when necessary.
* Jacks cars, remove trucks, positions to tank rolls, disassembles to repair or gain access to parts needing repair and reassembles as necessary.
* Assists other workman in placing, fitting and attaching of parts as assigned.
* Remove, replace, layout, bum, shape ream, and straighten as necessary to perform various repairs to: tank shell proper, fittings, couplers, gears, underframe, safety appliances, insulation jacket and related components.
* Performs minor layouts required in performance of prescribed duties.
* Lubricates and makes minor repairs to assigned small power, mechanical and hand tools, replacing broken and worn parts. Lubricate, gauge and adjust car parts as necessary.
* Certifications are held per AWS D 15.1.
* Communicate with supervisor as needed.
* Keeps work area in a clean and orderly manner.
* Comply with the established safety policies, support-continuing awareness for safety,
and when possible recommend specific changes and improvements to health and safety policies and programs

Stenciler

* Secures paint and or materials from storage area and returned unused portions after use.
* Changes tips on spray guns to attain specified spraying pattern.
* Mixes paints with thinner solution according to solution according to formula.
* Regulates pump air pressure.
* Determines proper stencil information from work order.
* Cleans and repairs equipment as required.
* Fabricates stencils by hand or by machine as required.
* Communicate with supervisor as needed.
* Keeps work area in a clean and orderly manner.
* Comply with the established safety policies, support-continuing awareness for safety,
and when possible recommend specific changes and improvements to health and safety policies and programs.

* Ability to read and interpret documents such as 10 instructions, FM instructions, work orders, and AAR Field Manual.
* High school diploma or general education degree (GED)
* Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide two digit numbers.
* Ability to reason through and plan work details and procedures to obtain desired results.
