Astrion has an exciting opportunity for a Senior Cloud Engineer to support the Air Force Intelligence Community (IC) Chief Information Officer (CIO). Our engineer will provide professional management, systems engineering, and technical assistance to support the management of the Air Force Intelligence, Surveillance, and Reconnaissance (AF ISR) Cloud Capability Portfolio. This includes governance, strategic planning, enterprise architecture, capability portfolio management, solution analysis, implementation planning, performance and risk management, IT service management, systems engineering, innovative project management, data analytics, training, program analysis, policy analysis, information technology analysis, and administrative technical support for the management of the AF ISR Cloud Capability Portfolio.

WORK LOCATION: Fort Belvoir, VA and the Pentagon, Washington DC. Hybrid telework, on site 1 - 2 days per week.

JOB STATUS: Full time, salaried

TRAVEL: Occasional travel is required, including local travel within the National Capital Region, CONUS, and OCONUS.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Cloud cost optimization: Evaluate cloud expenditures, finding areas where costs may be cut, and putting cost-effective cloud solutions into place without sacrificing security or performance.
  • Cloud Migration: Coordinating and overseeing the transfer of workloads from on-premises systems to the cloud with the least amount of disturbance to customer operations and a smooth data transfer.
  • Cloud security and compliance: Establishing guidance for security measures to safeguard data and apps in the cloud and making sure cloud architectures adhere to industry/government compliance requirements.
  • Cloud Performance and Scalability: Establishing standards on cloud performance, making the most use of available resources, and creating scalable solutions to meet changing needs and expanding mission needs.
  • Automation and DevOps in the Cloud: Experience in automation and DevOps techniques to optimize cloud operations, boost productivity, and enable pipelines for continuous integration and continuous deployment (CI/CD).
  • API Design & Development: Experience in developing, implementing, and maintaining RESTful and/or GraphQL APIs for various applications and services.
  • Manage Proof of Concepts: Exploratory projects to identify, evaluate and eventually adopt most suitable Cloud Computing (IaaS, PaaS and SaaS) models.
  • Disaster Recovery Planning: Collaborate with customers to create robust disaster recovery and backup plans for cloud-based solutions.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor's Degree or higher in Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field
  • Active DoD Top Secret clearance with SCI eligibility

EXPERIENCE

  • Eight or more years of demonstrated work experience as a cloud engineer or in a similar position
  • Experience in developing a comprehensive cloud strategy and overseeing the adaptation process effectively
  • Experience in assessing cloud applications, hardware, and software
  • Providing guidance on techniques for infrastructure migration, including bulk data transfers to the cloud
  • Experience in Instructing teams on the integration of cutting-edge cloud technologies and initiatives
  • Working closely with diverse cross-functional teams to improve our cloud infrastructure and optimize performance
  • Experience in detecting, assessing, and resolving infrastructure vulnerabilities and application deployment challenges
  • Conducting capacity planning exercises to anticipate future resource requirements and scale cloud infrastructure to accommodate growth and changing workloads effectively
  • Experience in designing and implementing secure and scalable cloud environments.
  • Experience implementing security best practices to protect data and ensure secure access to APIs
  • Experience with virtualization and the configuration of IaaS, PaaS, and SaaS environments, along with associated software development environments using Microsoft Azure and/or AWS
  • Experience implementing commercial security solutions like web application firewalls, IDS/IPS, SIEM, DLP, and DDoS mitigation
  • Guide and impact the cloud design decisions and development roadmap for customers
  • Providing Technical Governance in the delivery of cloud projects
  • Experience in proactively monitoring cloud resources and usage, implementing cost optimization strategies to maximize efficiency and reduce expenditure
  • Developing and documenting User Experience (UX) requirements including information architecture and user interface requirements from a mission thread perspective
  • Skilled in strategic communications and knowledge management using tools such as SharePoint, Jira, Confluence and Mattermost
  • Experience in designing and implementing Hybrid Cloud solutions and knowledge on infrastructure areas involving Storage, Servers, Network, and broad knowledge in other areas of Cloud & Infrastructure.
  • Experience in developing a FINOPS dashboard to explain cost generation and suggest steps to reduce expenses (e.g., different storage options, reserved instances, scheduling workloads for different times, etc.).
