Senior Product Manager - Fault Tolerance Quantum Computing (FTQC) Applications

PSI Quantum
$150,000-$205,000 USD
United States
Nov 06, 2024

We believe quantum computing will change everything. It will have the power to transform the foundations of giant industries that rely on intensive computation. PsiQuantum is on a mission to build the world's first useful quantum computer, capable of delivering these transformative results. We know that means it will need 1 million qubits, error correction, a scalable architecture and a data center footprint.

By harnessing the laws of quantum physics, quantum computers can provide exponential performance increases over today's most powerful supercomputers, offering the potential for extraordinary advances across a broad range of industries including climate, energy, healthcare, pharmaceuticals, finance, agriculture, transportation, materials design, and many more.

PsiQuantum is uniquely positioned to deliver on the promise of quantum computing years earlier than our competitors. Our architecture is based on photonics which gives us the ability to produce our components using existing high-volume semiconductor manufacturing processes, the same processes that are today producing billions of chips for telecom and consumer electronics applications. Since photons don't feel heat, we can take advantage of existing cryogenic cooling systems, the kind that have been operating at facilities like the Stanford Linear Accelerator (SLAC). And because photons are in fact light, they can move between subsystems at tremendous speed using standard fiber connectivity.

Our team is building a utility scale quantum computer and the software tools needed to build fault tolerant quantum applications. We're a highly motivated and collaborative group focused on a singular goal - building the world's first useful quantum computer on the fastest path possible.

As a member of the CBO organization, you will join a team that encompasses all the company's functions and resources outside of the engineers building the actual quantum computer and our back-office G&A functions.

This includes application engineering and software tools development, technical product and program management, internally driven solutions development, marketing communications and all our strategic go-to-market and commercialization resources globally.

There's much more work to be done and we are looking for exceptional talent to join us on this extraordinary journey!

Job Summary:

PsiQuantum's application team is uniquely focused on building a world-class software environment for fault tolerant quantum computing (FTQC) algorithm developers. These tools allow quantum developers to utilize, optimize and visualize large-scale fault tolerant quantum algorithms. The primary role of the Sr. Product Manager (PM) FTQC Applications is to develop a detailed roadmap and produce feature requirements for each release of the tools that will benefit quantum experts and subject matter experts (SMEs). The PM will work with both internal experts and external customers. It will be essential to this role to either possess domain knowledge in quantum computing algorithms and how quantum computing algorithm users work on a day-to-day basis. This role will require a product manager with strong domain judgement to prioritize and translate specific needs into actionable requirements for the engineering teams to build domain-specific software tools. These tools should enable quantum algorithm developers and SMEs to develop and iterate faster, better, and more accurately. SMEs span chemistry, Partial Differential Equations (PDE), material science, and other segments. Additionally, the PM will collaborate closely with business development and solutions teams to identify use cases, application areas, and target customer segments, as well as work with marketing to create collateral for these highly technical customers (many of whom are quantum researchers).

Responsibilities:

  • Lead the requirements gathering, documentation, and prioritization of quantum applications software tools with a focus on enabling quantum algorithm developers and subject matter experts spanning chemistry, Partial Differential Equations (PDE), and material science.
  • Develop and maintain a detailed roadmap of expert-driven software tools.
  • Present to customers and partners use-cases, tutorials, and best practices associated with FTQC algorithm development.
  • Work closely with stakeholders to clarify, validate, prioritize, and manage software launches and feature releases, and champion adoption.
  • Develop (with assistance of engineers and technical marketing) collateral such as videos, papers, presentations, use case documents, and success stories.
  • Assist business development with partnership opportunities with industry, software partners, and academia.
  • Assist product and applications leadership with prioritization of use cases, segments, and investments.

Experience/Qualifications:

  • Master's degree or equivalent in Quantum Computing, Physics, Math, or extensive experience required.
  • 2-5 years of product management of platforms or tools used by subject matter experts, that have undergone many product release cycles and scaled in both feature sets and number of users.
  • Domain knowledge in quantum computing / quantum information science, or experience building tools for quantum computing algorithm developers.
  • Track record of driving adoption of tools used by experts in their field.
  • Practical experience in developer environments, IDEs, and frameworks as well as data visualization tools and platforms (e.g. GitHub, VSCode, AWS, Azure...).
  • Demonstrated verbal, written and presentation skills (samples required).
  • Proven team player with an ability to work effectively across departments, sites, and time zones.
  • A results-driven "doer", preferably with experience in a high-throughput, rapid-delivery work environment.
  • Detail oriented, data driven problem solver, with an analytical mindset.
  • Ability to work independently and contribute in a fast-moving start-up environment.
