Job Summary:

The Department of Computer Science and Engineering in the College of Engineering, Design and Computing at the University of Colorado Denver invites applications for a non-tenure track faculty position at the level of Instructor, Senior Instructor or Assistant Teaching Professor. The major responsibility of the individual in this position will be developing and teaching courses in the undergraduate Cybersecurity program in Computer Science and Engineering. The individual will conduct scholarly research in their area of expertise to be current with the rapid changes in the field and contribute to the academic success of students through advising and student project supervision. Teaching assignments may include online, evening and Friday courses.

In addition to teaching existing courses, they will help develop new courses for the Bachelor of Science in Cybersecurity to develop and grow the curriculum. Example areas of new development are ethical hacking, risk management, secure systems, secure software development and cyber law and policies. The new degree is designed to respond to the urgent need for skilled cybersecurity expertise in business, industry, healthcare, and government.

The Computer Science and Engineering Department currently has sixteen full-time faculty members. The department offers a ABET accredited Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Science, a Bachelor of Arts degree in Computer Science, a Bachelor of Science degree in Cybersecurity, a Master of Science degree in Computer Science, and two multidisciplinary PhD degrees in Computer Science and Information Systems and Engineering and Applied Science, and several certificates. The unit provides quality computer science education and research opportunities to our students and quality professional service to the professional community and the general public in the Denver metropolitan area. The current strengths of the faculty are in the areas of algorithms, artificial intelligence, computer networks, cybersecurity, graphics, parallel and distributed systems, cyber physical systems, data science, machine learning, and theory. Our faculty are engaged in multidisciplinary research and encourage collaborative research among disciplines. In addition to general computing labs, the department houses several specialized research labs in graphics & VR/AR, Cyber-Physical Systems (CPS), Active Cyber Infrastructure and Defense (ACID), Theory and Algorithms, Machine Learning (ML), networks (DECENT), Big Data Management and Mining Laboratory (BDLab), Mobile and Pervasive Systems Lab (MAPS Lab), and Parallel and Distributed Systems (PDS). Our campus has been designated for National Centers of Academic Excellence in Cybersecurity (NCAE) in Cyber Defense (CAE-CD) by the NSA (National Security Agency) since 2023, and we offer a graduate certificate for Cybersecurity Defense.

The College of Engineering, Design and Computing takes pride in having a faculty of excellent scholars and engineering practitioners. This is an open-rank position with the following required qualifications:

Assistant Teaching Professor





    • PhD in Computer Science, Computer Science and Engineering or closely related field within Cybersecurity




Instructor or Senior Instructor:





    • Master's degree in Computer Science, Computer Science and Engineering or closely related field with study and experience in Cybersecurity




Preferred Qualifications:



  • Strong interest in teaching undergraduate courses
  • Passion for mentoring and supervising undergraduate student projects
  • Experience advising and mentoring students
  • Teaching experience at the undergraduate level
  • Experience in program and course development
  • Scholarly research skills and experience in Cybersecurity, Secure Computing, or a related field

The starting salary range (or hiring range) for this position has been established at:



  • Instructor: $60,000-$80,000
  • Senior Instructor: $60,000-$80,000
  • Assistant Teaching Professor: $70,000-$90,000


The above salary range (or hiring range) represents the University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting. This position is not eligible for overtime compensation unless it is non-exempt.
