Overview

Responsible for the direction, supervision and evaluation of nursing care during hours of duty. Has responsibility for activities concerned with assigned personnel, for the evaluation of patient care, for equipment and supplies, and interdepartmental relations.

Responsibilities

  • 1. Essential Functions
    • 1.1 Assumes responsibility for the operational needs of the nursing division and for the nursing care delivered during the assigned shift
  • 2. Essential Functions ( continued)
    • 2.1 Consults with patients/families through primary nurse request, direct family request, and/or direct assessment of patient/family response to hospitalization.
  • 3. Staff/Self Development
    • 3.1 Acts as a clinical resource and role model

    • 4.1 Actively participates in training and educational activities for other staff members
  • 5. Customer Service
    • 5.1 Demonstrate a high level of respect, dignity compassion and professionalism for all customers by utilizing the four tenets of Patient Family and Centered Partnership.
  • 6. Employee Collaboration and Teamwork
    • 6.1 Recognizes and values the contributions of fellow employees and displays cooperation and teamwork.
  • 7. Resource Utilization
    • 7.1 Reports to work on time, prepared to work and follow hospital policies for notice of lateness/absenteeism and time off requests.
  • 8. List core competency
    • 8.1 List duty/task determing competency

Qualifications

EDUCATION

BS preferred.

EXPERIENCE

Five years recent clinical experience in relevant area of nursing practice. Previous nursing management experience preferred. Demonstrated leadership ability and potential managerial competency. Evidence of this includes, but is not limited to, effective communication skills, ability to deal well with people, to problem solve, to confront/resolve issues, to motivate others, to plan, organize, and direct the activities of others.

LICENSURE

Current registration as RN in the state of Rhode Island. BLS, PALS, ACLS.
