Overview

Assist in Delivery of Medications from the Pharmacy Department to the Medication Rooms in the Operating Room under the supervision of a pharmacist. Assist the Anesthesia department to maintain adequate inventory of anesthesia supplies in the O.R., restocking and ordering items as required. In conjunction with other Pharmacy technicians. Assures that par levels of medication stored in the Medication Rooms in the O.R. are adequate.

Responsibilities

  • 1. Responsible for maintaining and stocking of pharmaceutical supplies within the Anesthesia and Operating Room areas.
  • 2. Maintains adequate inventory of anesthesia supplies including clean laryngoscope blades, stylets and LMA for daily use. Insures that the workroom is clean and organized. Stocks the O.R. on a daily basis.
  • 3. Maintains specialty anesthesia carts for Pediatrics, MRI/CT, malignant hy
  • 4. Interacts with Biomed department to assure all equipment is in proper working order and routine maintenance is done in a timely manner. Cleans anesthesia machines weekly.
  • 5. If certified assists Anesthesiologist in the O.R. when necessary.
  • 6. Assists in planning departmental budget
  • 7. Assists in planning for long term equipment needs.
  • 8. Interacts with company representatives to arrange inservices on new equipment.
  • 9. Oversees anethesia tech to assure he/she is accomplishing his/her duties and responsibilites.
  • 10. The staff member must be able to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served on his or her assigned unit. The individual must demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span and possess the ability to assess data reflective of the patient-s status and interpret the appropriate information needed to identify each patient-s requirements relative to his or her age-specific needs, and to provide the care needed as described in the unit-s/area-s/department-s policies and procedures.

Qualifications

EDUCATION

High School Graduate.

EXPERIENCE

Registered with the State of Connecticut as a Pharmacy Technician or will obtain within 60 days of hire

LICENSURE

Registered with the State of Connecticut as a Pharmacy Technician or will obtain within 60 days of hire

SPECIAL SKILLS

Good communication/interpersonal skills with good math background.

PHYSICAL DEMAND

Standing, walking, and reaching most of the day. Working within set time frames to provide patients with correct medications. Lifting materials up to 60lbs. Helps to move heavy equipment.
Works in area where potential toxic chemicals are being prepared. May be exposed to infectious diseases and radiation.
