Industrial Processing Plant Construction Management Project Executive
Hernandez Consulting Inc. (HC) is an Industrial Processing Plant Construction Manager (CM). We are a company whose Team members understand the power of collaboration and teamwork and leverage that power to overcome challenges and accomplish great things.
This is an 8 to 10 year program and hiring will be in the 1st quarter of 2025. There are multiple Plants scheduled in Southern West Virginia along with plants being developed in other locations.
Hernandez Consulting Inc. is looking for a Project Executive with 25 to 30 years of experience in Industrial Processing Plant Construction Management. You will need to have experience with projects ranging from a minimum of $200 to $300 million in value. This position will be based in either New Orleans, LA with extensive travel to Southern WV, or in Southern West Virgina with some travel to New Orleans, LA. The project executive will have a senior role within our construction firm that is responsible for managing and overseeing most aspects of the project, from initial client relationships and contract negotiations to closeout, startup, and owner handover.
The primary responsibility of a project executive (PX) is to provide oversight and direction for all steps of the construction project or group of projects. This might include:
  • Overall responsibility for the profitability (P&I) of the project(s) while maintaining or exceeding safety, quality, and schedule requirements. Manage and lead multiple projects simultaneously from design and pre-construction through closeout.
  • Developing and managing relationships with potential and current clients.
  • Leadership responsibility for subcontract preparation and execution, claims and change order management, schedule, and requisitions.
  • Develop and maintain long-lasting relationships with Clients, the design community, and organizations to enhance future business development opportunities.
  • Develop high-performance teams through hiring, supervision, training, coaching, and mentoring. Ensure regular feedback is shared with staff including timely completion of employee performance appraisals.
  • Ensure timely and appropriate staffing for each project.
  • Responsible for ensuring timely submission and collection of receivables.
  • Collaborate with sales and marketing groups to secure new work, including the selection of project teams in response to RFP's. Assume ownership of opportunity pursuits and manage pursuit through awards.
  • Ensure strict adherence to ethics and compliance requirements on all projects.
  • Provide leadership in risk evaluation, contract negotiations, fee, and pricing decisions.
  • Oversee the development of the master project schedule and manage its implementation.
  • Provide oversight for budget and financial management for all projects.
  • Support and drive utilization of various initiatives and technologies.
  • Oversee the administration of the quality assurance/quality control program.
  • Drive enforcement of safety protocols by the project staff.
What You Need for this Position
  • Bachelor's degree from an ABET-accredited University in Engineering, Architecture, or Construction Management plus a minimum of 25 to 30 years of related experience.
  • Fluent English is required but Spanish is helpful but not required.
  • You will serve as the leader of the project team, so you must be able to build and maintain an effective team culture. You will provide support, oversight, and guidance to most members of the project management team, including PMs, senior PMs, superintendents, project engineers, and project assistants.
  • The PX will provide strategic planning, managing site logistics, collaborating on design development, building effective workflows, budget preparation, awarding subcontracts or helping to establish a safety plan and assess whether it's being carried out.
  • Be a liaison between the project and leadership teams, you must have experience with all parts of the construction process, a command of executive leadership best practices, and an understanding of our company's goals, culture, and finances.
  • You will need to be skilled in risk management and problem-solving that balances priorities such as schedule, budget, quality, and safety. The PX regularly works with the project team to understand, identify, and mitigate potential delays, safety concerns, and ways to maximize value through methods such as value engineering. The PX establishes and maintains a relationship with the CM's general counsel to address legal and contractual concerns.
  • The project executive will assess, invest in, and integrate innovation into their workflows and job sites. Innovation is any tool, method, or habit that optimizes the construction process and improves final outcomes. This might include lean construction methods, document management software, or advanced technology such as robotics.
  • The PX must be able to develop and maintain positive relationships with every stakeholder, including clients and owners, executive leadership, project team members, subcontractors and vendors. You should be able to effectively communicate, resolve conflicts and manage morale.
  • The PX will ensure that warranty issues are resolved promptly and effectively.
  • Thorough knowledge of construction cost, scheduling, estimating, purchasing, and engineering principles and techniques, as well as accounting principles.
  • Ability to seek out and find business opportunities. Must have the ability to learn the market and assist the Business Development Team with sales/closing skills.
  • Proven written and verbal communication abilities; proficiency with computer applications, including Vista, Procore, and Microsoft Office suite.
  • Must have advanced presentation skills.
  • Ability to read, understand, and interpret contract documents, drawings, specifications, scopes of work, and project schedules.
  • Demonstrated leadership and interpersonal skills.
