Under the supervision of a licensed independent practitioner, manager and/or Registered Nurse, in accordance with the Commonwealth of Virginia Board of Nursing delegation and supervision guidelines, assists with a variety of direct and indirect patient care activities. These include assistance with activities of daily living, comfort care and nutritional support, and performance of selected diagnostic and therapeutic tasks and procedures as directed. Indirect patient care activities include maintaining a clean safe environment, ensuring adequate inventory of supplies and equipment, and data collection as pertinent to the patient population.

Independent action(s) required: May function independently under protocols approved by VCUHS Medical Director and hospital and departmental policy/procedure. Functions under direction of a licensed independent practitioner, MD, and/or RN in providing patient care, emotional support, and problem solving; all in accordance with hospital, nursing and unit policy/procedure. Functions under departmental Standards of Practice (SOP) in the communications room and in the role of patient transport in collaboration with RN and Physician colleagues. Job duties may include the handling, transportation, access to and/or contact with medications and related supplies.

Additional position requirements: Works all three shifts, weekends and holidays. Individual shift rotation and schedules will be established with your specific Nurse Manager/Practice Manager. Schedules, including requirements of shift rotations and hours of work may be adjusted as necessary to meet unit requirements and/or as needed.
