Position Overview: The Sudmant lab studies genetic and molecular phenotypic diversity at both the organismal and cellular level. We study the evolution, causes, and consequences of aging as well as the evolution of genome structure and cellular diversity. Our lab analyzes, integrates, and generates massive-scale genomic datasets, a scientific approach that leverages computational biology and statistics as well as wet-lab and high-throughput experimental methods. This position will focus on leading scientific projects pertaining to evolutionary biology, population genetics, conservation genetics, and bioinformatics using computational and statistical approaches. A major focus of the project scientist's work will be to lead and assist in projects related to structural variation evolution in various organisms, including rockfish, humans and non-human primates, as well as to study broad patterns of structural variation diversity across the tree of life.
