Job Summary

The Director, Athletics Facilities & Events oversees the planning, maintenance, organization, and daily operations of all athletics and special events held in athletic facilities.

Job Description

Typical duties may include but are not limited to:

  • Oversees day to day operations of the maintenance and scheduling of assigned Athletics spaces, including 25Live and master calendar.
  • Develops and manages the program operating budget to ensure program alignment with fiscal allocation. Monitors revenues and expenses, approves all purchases
  • Recruits, hires, trains, and develops a staff of OPS, support and professional employees that assist in carrying out the goals and objectives of the functional area. Provides daily oversight of work.
  • Provides a safe and welcoming environment for student-athletes, staff, faculty, and all visitors. Ensures all regulations, policies, procedures, and safety practices are followed.
  • Assists with the development and implementation of strategies for effective management and maintenance of all athletic facilities.
  • Develops and implements new initiatives to improve operations. Collaborates with unit leadership on capitol and maintenance projects and facility upgrades.
  • Leads hosting FGCU Athletics home and neutral competitions, ASUN tournaments, NCAA Championships, and other athletics special events.
  • Serves as the primary liaison for Athletics facilities with the University community, vendors, and the general public. Serves as point of contact and facility manager for external events in athletic facilities including scheduling events, preparing facility use agreements, managing set-up/break-down, and tracking payments.
  • Initiates facility repair/enhancement requests and monitors the quality of services provided.
  • Oversees the cleanliness, storage, and organization of facilities.
  • Complies with all University and ASUN Conference regulations, as well as all NCAA rules and regulations. Remains current with all changes in NCAA, as well as changes to University, ASUN Conference rules and regulations regarding intercollegiate athletics. This includes the requirement for self-reporting any possible rule violations and participation in the annual NCAA continuing education programs including passing the NCAA certification test, if applicable. Any violation of NCAA rules is prohibited and may result in disciplinary action up to and including termination of employment.

Other Duties:

  • Assists with daily operations and lock-up of facilities as needed.
  • Serves as athletic department liaison for FGCU Commencement and FGCU Homecoming.
  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned.

Additional Job Description

Required Qualifications:

  • This position requires either nine years of directly related full-time experience or, as an alternative, a Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution in an appropriate area of specialization and five years of full-time experience directly related to the job functions.
  • Full-time professional experience in a higher education athletics department related to the position.
  • Experience operating a personal computer and proficient in Microsoft office (Word, Excel, and Outlook).
  • Any appropriate combination of relevant education, experience, and/or certifications may be considered.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master's Degree from an accredited institution in a related field.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Knowledge of applicable safety requirements.
  • Knowledge of policies, procedures, and guidelines established by professional organizations and/or governing agencies.
  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong organizational skills and an ability to prioritize and complete simultaneous projects with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to effectively manage the work of others by providing information, guidance and motivation.
  • Ability to exercise a high degree of independent judgement in the establishment, interpretation, application, and enforcement of all rules, regulations, and policies.
  • Ability to anticipate problems and address them proactively.
  • Ability to interact in a professional manner with a diverse group of staff, faculty, students, and the community in a service-oriented environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop collaborative relationships with both internal and external constituencies.
  • Ability to work successfully as both a member of a team and independently with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to work evenings, weekends and holidays.
