Job Summary
Auburn University Athletics is seeking a talented Human Resources Generalist to join our team! In this key role, you will provide professional-level support across a range of HR functions. This position is perfect for someone passionate about HR and keen to gain valuable experience in a dynamic and innovative setting. Join Auburn Athletics in supporting over 990 full-time, part-time, student, and temporary employees, and help administer and support daily HR programs as part of our dedicated Human Resources team.

This position administers routine Human Resources programs and procedures utilizing established policy, procedures, laws, regulations, precedents, and best practices in multiple areas of Human Resources including but not limited to talent acquisition, compensation and classification, employee relations, performance development, payroll (timekeeping), benefits administration, and training. This position supports human resources programs of assigned departments/sports within a large division on campus.

Essential Functions


  • Recruitment and Selection: Collaborates with hiring managers and leadership in the planning, initiation, and completion of job postings while providing timely customer service. Serves as a point of contact on inquiries from applicants regarding the opportunity.

  • Position Management and Classification: Serves as a point of contact related to classification of positions within Athletics by collaborating with campus departments and departmental leadership in desired outcomes. Conducts research and works closely with department leadership on recommendations. Monitors funding sources and other attributes of position to ensure accuracy.

  • Performance Development and Training: Advises departmental leaders, employees and supervisors in best practices of successful performance development outcomes. Develops and delivers varied human resources program training as part of a team to ensure policy and procedures are followed.

  • Leave Management and Timekeeping: Advises and monitors timekeeping of employees to ensure accuracy of records. Works closely with employees and supervisors to ensure adherence to Department of Labor and university policies and procedures. Advises and ensures accurate records related to various leave programs such as, FMLA, SCP, etc.

  • Employee Relations: Works closely with Athletics HR team, supervisors and department leadership in advisement of employee relations concerns. May counsel employees in meeting successful outcomes of performance expectations.

  • Employee Actions and Reports: Initiates system actions timely and accurately and monitors completion of varied employee actions in Banner, internal Athletics workflow system, etc. Research, compiles, and performs analysis of HR data as needed, to ensure accurate information and to execute recommended actions. Creates, provides, and maintains proper documentation for varied employee actions.
  • Interprets and advises employees and supervisors on other varied human resources related programs and topics.
  • May perform responsibilities related to special projects and other assigned job duties.
  • Follows and adheres to all federal, state and university human resources policies and procedures. Complies with all applicable National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) and Southeastern Conference (SEC) regulations in performance of job duties.

Minimum Qualifications

Level I - Bachelor's degree

Level II - Bachelor's degree and 2 or more areas of human resources management including compensation, benefits, employment, employee relations, payroll, training and/or development.

  • Knowledge of basic computer applications and various database and software programs. Knowledge of compensation principles and practices and salary schedules.
  • Excellent organizational and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Ability to work professionally and confidently with varying levels within the organization.

Minimum Technology Skills
  • Proficiency with MS Office (Word, Outlook, Excel, Access, SharePoint or equivalent) and Smartsheet.
