Job DescriptionThe Coordinator of Residence Life and Engagement I position is crucial in promoting student success by providing engagement activities for TSTC students that promote soft skills such as: leadership skills, teamwork, communication skills, conflict resolution, creative thinking, networking, self confidence, moral/ethical values, and others. This position provides front line services to students. As a Residence Life and Engagement team member, this position will strive to increase the level of engagement of residential students, living on-campus, by
coordinating leadership opportunities and engagement activities. The effectiveness of this position will be determined through lead measures and goals focused on student retention, completion, and placement which contribute to goals for the Student Services division and College as a whole. This position reports to the assigned leader at their campus and is responsible for upholding the policies and practices consistent with the College
mission and values of excellence, accountability, service and integrity.

Essential Functions

  • Employee will demonstrate TSTC Core values of Excellence, Accountability, Service and Integrity with internal and external stakeholders, customers, students and members of the community.
  • This position will deliver new and original events that will aid students in persisting through college. Types of duties include but are not limited to:
  • Develop and implement social and educational programs to allow students to gain leadership skills, teamwork opportunities, and promote a sense of connection with peers and campus community.
  • Assist in the planning and implementation of division or campus-wide events such as registration, college events, New Student Orientation (NSO), Commencement, etc.
  • Aid in preparation and facilitation of all events; oversee the set-up and break down of all events held.
  • Promote and publish all events for maximum participation to the student body to increase retention, persistence and completion.
  • Develop new and original ideas and events that will promote soft skills, student leadership opportunities and community engagement.
  • Utilize data to inform event schedule and programs
  • Evaluate and monitor program needs, identify unmet needs and revise Services as needed
  • This position will assist, develop, and sponsor wellness and intramural events/activities. Types of duties include, but are not limited, to:
  • Coordinate, schedule and maintain all wellness and fitness facilities and equipment. * Order all necessary equipment, supplies needed.
  • Development wellness and fitness programming including group fitness schedule. Develop and host intramural events including scheduling, set-up, enforcing rules, maintaining records, monitoring and tracking all sports equipment, teaching conflict resolution, and supervision of all competitions/activities.
  • Hire, train, and supervise student staff.
  • Mitigate risk in the facility and enhance safety for customers including working with Facilities and Risk Management Offices.
  • This position will foster communication. Types of duties include but are not limited to: *
  • Respond in a timely manner to all student inquiries received via email, text and phone systems.
  • Collaborate with faculty and staff to respond to provide student leadership opportunities through a variety of communication methods, including in person inquiry, telephone, email and other communication modalities.
  • Possess a general understanding of college policies, procedures, requirements, and effectively communicate them to students.
  • Communicate with supervisor for guidance
  • Other duties as assigned

Education/Experience/Knowledge/Skills

  • Minimum Associates degree with three years in Student Leadership, Physical Education/Health/Recreation or applicable field. Bachelor's degree in Humanities, Social & Behavioral Sciences, Communication, or Physical Education/Health/Recreation preferred
  • Three years' experience in recreation or a related field
  • Ability to use good judgement in all areas of the facility, events, and risk management. Thorough knowledge of college policies, procedures, and requirements. Skills in judgment and decision-making, problem solving.
  • Ability to multitask.
  • Abilities in problem identification, reasoning, ability to develop original ideas to solve problems.
  • Knowledge of the applicable federal and state regulations governing areas related to the responsibilities of the position including the Federal Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) and ability to maintain strict confidentiality at all times.
  • Ability to relate to individuals and groups of students using communication, counseling, and problem-solving skills.
  • Skill in working independently and following through on assignments 3 with minimal direction.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a service environment that is subject to frequent interruptions and skill in setting priorities that accurately reflect the relative importance of job responsibilities.
  • Demonstrated computer proficiency using Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, etc) or equivalent software, the internet, email messaging, and web-based software applications and experience using on-line student information systems. Advanced computer knowledge with the ability to understand and learn new on-line programs.
  • Ability to effectively, professionally, and tactfully interact and communicate, both orally and in writing with students, faculty, staff, and visitors. Skill in independently composing letters, memos, reports, and written communication materials using correct spelling, grammar, punctuation, composition, text editing, and proofreading skills.
  • Skill in accurate record keeping with strict attention to detail.
  • Skill in organizing tasks, documents and materials with efficiency and accuracy.
  • Must possess a valid Texas Driver's license and be insurable by the State of Texas
  • First Aid, AED, and CPR certified
  • This job description covers a position in which the percentage of time spent on the essential functions will vary based on the workload and will ultimately be determined by the supervisor. This position will require a 5% or greater out-of-town travel that could extend overnight(s). This position may occasionally require 10% or more availability to work beyond regular hours of operation and/or weekends.
