Responsibilities

Forest View Hospital, located just seven miles southeast of downtown Grand Rapids, Michigan, is a private 108 bed psychiatric facility that serves children, adolescents and adults. We are licensed by the State of Michigan, fully accredited by The Joint Commission and we bring more than 45 years of experience to the evaluation, diagnosis and treatment of a wide range of behavioral health problems. As a part of our continued success and growth, we are seeking qualified applicants for a Nursing Supervisor.

The Nursing Supervisor is a registered nurse who provides direct care, leadership, direction, and supervision for all nursing care on their shift. The nursing supervisor is the on site administrator during the "off hours" (weekends, holidays, evening and night shifts) providing direction and supervision in all areas of the hospital. The nursing supervisor coordinates admissions, discharges, response to emergency codes and overall quality of care for patients.

Essential Job Responsibilities:

  • Is competent in psychiatric nursing and direct care through education, skills and experience.
  • Provides leadership for overall unit responsibilities to assure quality of care for patients.
  • Responsible for employee hiring, training, performance appraisals, corrective action, professional recognition and growth of staff members as assigned.
  • Competent and skilled in assessing, planning, and delivering care for patients with psychiatric, co-occurring disorders and other mental health disorders.
  • Provides assessment of and maintaining a safe and therapeutic milieu. Assesses the physical and emotional needs of the high-risk patients and level of milieu acuity.
  • Serves as the shift leader, role model and supervisor for the nursing staff.
  • Participates as a member of the treatment team. Coordinates for admissions, discharges, patient teaching and physical status needs.
  • Responsible for overseeing department safety responsibilities such as:
  • Coordinating with staff for employee accident procedures according to hospital policy.
  • Providing safety training in the department when needed, and discussing safety issues at department meetings and encouraging safe work practices.
  • Pro-actively working with staff to reduce accidents and ensuring a safe work environment.

Education and Experience Requirements:

  • Current RN Licensure in the state of Michigan with a Bachelor's degree in Nursing preferred.
  • Previous psychiatric nursing experience required.
  • Excellent written, oral and leadership skills required.
  • CPR/Handle with Care certification required.
