Position description

Junior Specialist - Ramani Lab

The laboratory of Dr. Biswa Ramani (Department of Pathology and Division of Neuropathology) is seeking a Junior Research Specialist to join our team, dedicated to uncovering modifiers of protein aggregation and neuronal loss across various neurodegenerative disorders, including Huntington's disease (and related disorders), frontotemporal dementia, and amyotrophic lateral sclerosis. Our research utilizes cutting-edge CRISPR-based functional genomics tools in combination with cell and animal models to uncover novel insights. We integrate these tools with flow cytometry, imaging, biochemical, transcriptomic, and proteomic approaches to understand disease mechanisms.

Key responsibilities may include:



  • Conducting molecular biology experiments, including PCR, plasmid preparation, and cloning.
  • Performing basic mammalian cell culture for viral vector packaging and purification.
  • Handling and performing procedures on mice for genotyping and in vivo studies.
  • Processing and preparation of mouse brain tissues for imaging studies.
  • Maintaining records of experimental protocols and findings along with contributing to data analysis.
  • Participate in shared lab responsibilities, such as ordering, organizing, and shipping supplies and regents.


Required Qualifications:



  • Specialists appointed at the junior rank must possess a bachelor's degree (or equivalent degree) or have least four years of relevant research experience, by the time of hire.
  • Must have previous research experience.
  • Excellent organizational and analytical skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal communication (verbal and written).
  • Ability to work independently, prioritize and coordinate tasks, and meet multiple deadlines.

Preferred Qualifications:



  • Experience with tissue culture and cell biology.
  • Experience with molecular biology, including PCR, cloning, and plasmid preparation.
  • Experience with basic handling of mice for separating weanlings.
  • Experience with histology, including processing, embedding, and sectioning of frozen or FFPE tissues.
