Neurodiagnostic Tech III (IONM)

The Neurodiagnostic Tech III (IONM) will develop, direct and perform standard and advanced diagnostic testing procedures including, but not limited to, electroencephalograms (EEG), nerve conduction studies (NCS), Electromyograms (EMG), and evoked potentials (EP) on neonatal, pediatric, adult and geriatric patients throughout Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital. This individual is an IONM Specialist and has proven competence in the performance of complex multimodality intraoperative neuromonitoring, and is able to modify monitoring techniques to accommodate a diverse variety of intraoperative situations. The primary responsibility of an Neurodiagnostic Tech Level III (IONM) is to collect and analyze, or to oversee the collection and analysis of multiple types of recordings and measurements of the electrical activity of the central and/or peripheral nervous system. The Neurodiagnostic Tech III (IONM) provides monitoring data effective in localizing anatomical structures and nervous system tissues, including sensorimotor cortex, mapping techniques, peripheral nerves and nontumor tissue. Responsibilities extend to review and appropriate application of current developments in neurophysiological monitoring techniques and standards of practice. The Neurodiagnostic Tech III (IONM) works under "general supervision" during all IONM procedures, which requires that the procedure is performed under the general direction and oversight of a physician/neurologist.

Job Purpose

As a Neurodiagnostic Technologist III (IONM), you will work under the supervision of the Cardiology Manager to lead, perform, and develop advanced neurophysiologic monitoring (IONM) for intraoperative situations. Your expertise in EEG, nerve conduction studies (NCS), EMG, and evoked potentials (EP) on diverse patient groups, including neonatal to geriatric populations, will ensure that intraoperative interventions are executed safely, with the potential to minimize neurological risks. You will collect, analyze, and oversee the collection of recordings, localizing critical anatomical structures and nervous system tissues, enabling surgical teams to make informed decisions. Responsibilities include implementing the latest techniques, reviewing best practices, and adhering to neurophysiologic standards.

Responsibilities

Perform advanced diagnostic and monitoring procedures (EEG, EMG, EP, NCS) on patients across all age groups.

Conduct complex, multi-modality intraoperative neuromonitoring, adapting techniques to accommodate various intraoperative needs.

Provide oversight and analysis of neurophysiologic data, working under general supervision with the surgical team and a physician or neurologist.

Maintain and apply the latest standards in neurophysiologic monitoring, supporting patient safety and quality care.

Qualifications

Education



  • Minimum: Associate's degree from an accredited institution or completion of a hospital-based Electroneurodiagnostic Program.
  • Preferred: Completion of a CAAHEP-accredited Electroneurodiagnostic Program and an Associate's degree or higher.


Certifications and Licenses



  • Minimum: Current Certification in Intraoperative Neurophysiologic Monitoring (CNIM) and AHA Basic Life Support (BLS).
  • Preferred: Additional certifications such as R. EEG T., R. EP T., or R. NCS T.


Technical Requirements



  • Minimum: Competency in all IONM modalities and specialized procedures; strong computer skills.
  • Preferred: Experience mentoring other technologists in IONM procedures.


Experience



  • Minimum: 5 years of experience in intraoperative neurophysiologic monitoring (EEG, EMG, EP); 5 years in clinical Evoked Potential testing; and 1 year in a lead role as a neurodiagnostic technologist.
  • Preferred: Demonstrated skill in guiding and mentoring other technologists.


Skills and Abilities

Problem Solving and Decision Making: Capable of independently managing workflow, patient scheduling, and coordination with hospital departments. Proficient in troubleshooting equipment issues and consulting with the Cardiology Manager as needed.

Interpersonal Skills: Demonstrates professionalism, positive attitude, and commitment to patients, colleagues, and the community.

Communication Skills: Advanced written and oral communication skills, maintaining confidentiality and compassion in all interactions.

Other: Above-average computer skills.
