Make a Difference in Your Community - the YMCA is now hiring an Executive Director of Outdoor Experiences at YMCA Camp Duncan and YMCA Camp Independence!

The Executive Director of Outdoor Experiences is responsible for developing and implementing a comprehensive strategy for the YMCA's outdoor experiences portfolio. This role involves meticulous planning, coordination, and execution of outdoor events that align with the organization's strategic goals. The planner will focus on fostering an environment of radical hospitality, ensuring extraordinary efforts are made to make everyone feel genuinely welcome and included in YMCA camps and any outdoor facilitated activities. This includes promoting active participation and recognizing each person's individual needs. The position aims to create experiences that benefit both adults and children, enhancing their physical, mental, and emotional well-being. This role requires a blend of creativity, strategic thinking, and meticulous attention to detail to deliver memorable and impactful events. The planner will work closely with other departments to ensure each activity supports the broader business objectives and enhances the organization's brand.

Salary starts at $85,000-$100,000 per year with on-site housing provided

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:




  • Strategic Development: Build and execute a strategy for the YMCA's outdoor experiences portfolio including overnight youth and family camps, fitness and holistic camps, adventure trips, music and art festivals, community events, corporate gatherings, retreats, outdoor weddings, etc.



  • Event Planning and Coordination: Plan, coordinate, and execute outdoor activities and events that align with the organization's strategic goals. Organizing and coordinating various outdoor events. This role involves working closely with clients to understand their vision and requirements, managing budgets, and ensuring all logistical elements are in place for a successful event.



  • Radical Hospitality: Foster an environment of radical hospitality by making extraordinary efforts to welcome and include all participants.



  • Inclusive Engagement: Ensure active participation and recognition of each person's individual needs.



  • Holistic Well-being and Play: Develop fun and playful experiences that contribute to the physical, mental, and emotional well-being of both adults and children.



  • Fund Development and Financial Operations: Provide leadership to the annual support, endowment and capital campaigns and other financial development activities of the association to support the strategic growth of outdoor experiences and financial viability of the agency.



  • Outdoor space coordination: Oversee the management of the camp property, maintenance, food service, staff houses, cabins, health center, lodges, camp roads, seasonal staff cabin, waterfront, maintenance sheds, activity shelter, boat house, outdoor chapel, ropes courses, climbing tower, program areas, archery range, camp store, raggers point, and environment. Ensure investments are made in continuous improvement and standards of licensing and accreditation are met. Continuously updates and improves current programs such as aquatics, waterfront activities, sport activities, tripping activities, evening activities, alumni programs. Establish collaborative relationships with communities.



  • Leadership: Hires and develops YMCA team members by evaluating performance and providing coaching to inspire accountability within the teams.




Minimum and Required Requirements




  • Understanding of the benefits outdoors experiences can bring to the physical, social and emotional, and mental health of children and adults.



  • Experience in event planning and coordination.



  • Ability to develop and implement effective fundraising and event/activity strategies that align with the organization's goals.



  • Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities. Building strong relationships with donors and stakeholders is crucial. Excellent communication and listening skills help in understanding donor needs and motivations.



  • Financial Acumen: Understanding of budgeting and financial management to ensure cost-effective fundraising efforts



  • Commitment to inclusivity and radical hospitality.



  • Ability to create engaging and beneficial outdoor experiences for diverse groups.



  • Positive history of leadership in the areas of staff development, fund raising, program planning, budget development, camp accreditation and licensing, management of fiscal control systems, financial development, strategic planning and community development.




Child Abuse Prevention - Supports the YMCA's commitment to child abuse prevention by:



  • Reporting any items that may provide a health or safety hazard to staff, members or guests to your supervisor.
  • Following all policies and procedures related to keeping children safe in our facilities and programs, including those related to the monitoring and supervision of children.
  • Reporting any suspicious behavior and violation of policy and procedures to your supervisor.
  • Completing all child abuse prevention training as required.
