Job Description

The Naval Nuclear Laboratory is seeking a highly motivated candidate to join our Building and Fire Protection Engineering team in West Milton, NY as a Fire Protection Engineering Technologist.

As a Fire Protection Engineering Technologist, the successful candidate will support system operation and reliability through an inspection, testing and maintenance program.

Daily activities may include:

* Writing and overseeing preventive and corrective maintenance work scopes.

* Provide technical support to the operators of the inspection, testing and maintenance programs to include water based and gaseous suppression, fire alarm/detection and passive systems.

* Identifying and addressing emergency and pre-planned impairments and system deficiencies. Coordinating and managing system deficiencies with operations and maintenance personnel to provide continued use of our facilities.

* Performing system gap analysis and planning future improvements to meet the future mission of the site.

* Assisting the fire protection engineers on system modifications, new design and installations of water based, fire alarm/detection and passive systems.

This position will require the technologist to interact with multiple organizations, systems engineers and code officials to ensure system reliability. The successful candidate should be comfortable working in a self-directed environment.

Required Combination of Knowledge and Skill
High school diploma or equivalent and a minimum of 14 years of relevant experience; or
Associate's degree from an accredited college or university in a technical, engineering or science related field and a minimum of 10 years of relevant experience; or
Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in a technical, engineering or science related field and a minimum of 6 years of relevant experience.
Preferred Skills

  • Level II or III NICET certification for Inspection and Testing of Water-Based Systems.
  • Level II or III NICET certification for Inspection and Testing of Fire Alarm Systems.
  • Working knowledge of NFPA 25 and 72.
  • Familiarity with the Building Code set for New York State
  • Strong interpersonal and teaming skills
  • Coordination of multi-discipline teams
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills

Pay Range
$83,600.00 - $130,700.00 annually
Salary information provided is a general guide line only. Annual salary is based upon candidate experience and qualifications, as well as market and business considerations

The Naval Nuclear Laboratory is operated for the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) by Fluor Marine Propulsion, LLC (FMP), a wholly owned subsidiary of Fluor Corporation.
