Communication Arts

Job Summary

Manage and coordinate all aspects of costume design work in the Communication Arts Costume Shop. Functions as the costume supervisor for all productions, coordinating with faculty, production staff, students, and community users. Supervises assigned staff, student assistants and students.

Responsibilities
  • Manages and coordinates all aspects of Costume Shop production, including engagement with Theatre and Opera productions
  • Oversees the facility budget and facility purchases
  • Coordinates with all faculty and costume designers and technicians to arrange equipment, facility use, and materials according to their designs and specifications
  • Creates and constructs costumes per design submission
  • Responsible for costume fittings and modifications
  • Supervises staff, student assistants and students enrolled in the theater program
  • Provides supervision to wardrobe crews for performances
  • Mentors and trains student designers in proper costuming techniques


Required Qualifications

Educational Requirements
  • Bachelor's Degree in Costume Design, Costume Technology, or closely related discipline

Required Experience
  • Experience in costume shop supervision, including budgeting and scheduling


Preferred Qualifications

Additional Preferred Qualifications
  • Skills in costume crafts, hair and makeup, mask-making, or other costume specialties

Preferred Educational Qualifications
  • Master's of Fine Arts and/or PhD in Costume Design, Costume Technology, or closely related discipline

Preferred Experience
  • One (1) or more years of professional experience


Proposed Salary

$43,067 - $53,834

This is an exempt position paid on a monthly basis.
