Organizational Unit Overview |
The Office of Undergraduate Admissions is the primary point of contact for a traditional first year student, transfer, or non-traditional adult student seeking admission to East Carolina University. The office is responsible for identifying and recruiting potential applicants with outstanding academic ability and potential and assisting in the application process to completion. |
Job Duties |
This position serves in an informational recruitment role with prospective students, parents and high school counselors, while demonstrating the highest commitment to outstanding customer service. The Admissions Counselor is responsible for the development and implementation of a strategic territory, including managing all recruiting and yield activities within designated geographic areas. This position articulates admissions policies and procedures to students, families, and school counselors; participates in university undergraduate admissions recruitment activities, including high school day/night programs, college fairs, and individual visits. This position advises and counsels prospective students and families on the educational opportunities at
ECU, admissions criteria, polices, procedures, academic and major scholarship programs at informational sessions,
ECU Open House, Pirates Aboard, and other special events.
75% Territory Management
- Travel extensively in the assigned geographic region to recruit qualified students.
- Meet and communicate effectively with prospective students and families on the educational opportunities at East Carolina University, admissions criteria, policies, procedures, academic and major scholarship programs, and student services within the university.
- Develop and strengthen relationships with high school counselors, independent counselors, alumni and other key influencers in the recruitment process within assigned region.
- Plan and conduct extensive outreach and conversation-building activities (i.e. via in-person and/or virtual communication, phone, e-mail, written correspondence, and social media) with prospective students and their families throughout the recruitment funnel.
- Proactively communicate and follow-up with prospective students during the recruitment cycle to assist and answer questions through their completion of enrollment at ECU.
- Report information related to the outcomes of recruitment initiatives to include budgetary impact and enrollment funnel data for the designated territory.
- Submit travel documentation, receipts, etc. in a timely manner and according to University policy and procedures.
15% Recruitment Team Support
- Serve on the Office of Admissions On Call/E-mail rotation to support prospective students.
- Represent ECU at additional events or presentations on campus or outside designated territory.
- Individual projects assigned by the Associate Director of Recruitment or their designee.
10% Continuous Training and Learning
- Attend in person and/or virtual office training for CRM, Banner, etc.
- Participate in staff development opportunities.
This position is contingent upon available funding. |
Minimum Education/Experience |
- Bachelor's degree. All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions.
- Excellent organization and communication skills.
- Position requires a valid driver's license or the ability to obtain one within 30 days of the date of hire. A valid driver's license must be maintained as a condition of employment.
- Ability to rent vehicle.

Preferred Experience, Skills, Training/Education |
- Experience on a college campus, in an office of admissions, customer service, and/or related work experience.
- Understanding of the Minimum Admission Requirements (MCR) outlined by the University of North Carolina System.
- Ability to be highly motivated and detail-oriented.
