Primary Purpose of Organizational Unit |
The
UNC Eshelman School of Pharmacy (www.pharmacy.unc.edu) is one of six health science schools (Pharmacy, Nursing, Dentistry, Social Work, Public Health, Medicine) at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and is one of the oldest health science academic programs at Chapel Hill. The School teaches approximately 600 PharmD students and 145 graduate students. The School has built a reputation for its continued pursuit of excellence, rigorous education and training programs, cutting-edge multidisciplinary research, progressive pharmacy practices, efficient business operations, and its outstanding faculty, staff, and students. Position Summary |
The
UNC Eshelman School of Pharmacy is seeking a highly qualified Human Resources Business Partner. This role reports directly to the Associate Director of Human Resources and is one of four Human Resources Business Partners on the Eshelman School of Pharmacy HR Team. This position is the primary point of contact for oversight and execution of faculty personnel processes and procedures within the School. The primary responsibility of the role is managing faculty appointments and promotions (both tenure-track and fixed-term). The incumbent will oversee the process for a range of faculty personnel matters, including recruitment, hiring, onboarding, promotions, end-of-appointments, secondary appointments, compensation, overload payments, and training. The HR Business Partner will work closely with faculty, division chairs, and administrative support to ensure a smooth and timely process for all faculty appointments, reappointments, promotions, and tenure actions. The successful candidate must possess a strong ability to research, interpret, and apply policies to diverse situations.
In addition to these responsibilities, the role involves overseeing the preparation of comprehensive faculty appointment packages, and ensuring completeness and accuracy in documentation. The ideal candidate will possess strong verbal and written communication skills for interacting with employees at all levels of the organization, be solution-oriented, possess a demonstrated ability to build relationships across different functions, work collaboratively with various teams, demonstrate strong attention to detail, and demonstrate the ability to support the School's WE

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements |
Bachelor's degree; or equivalent combination of training and experience. All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions. |
Required Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience |
The position requires a high level of organization, strong attention to detail, discretion, and an ability to adapt easily, follow through, complete tasks and resolving a myriad of complex issues. Outstanding verbal and written communication skills required. Strong computer skills in Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint required. Successful applicants will demonstrate a positive, highly professional and customer oriented focus in the workplace. Strong influencing and negotiating skills and the ability to exercise independent judgement. Experience in cross-departmental and inter-team collaboration. |
Preferred Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience |
- Prior experience in
UNC System in HR, faculty affairs and/or personnel, strongly preferred with preference to experience specific to
UNC Chapel Hill
- Three years or greater of professional level human resources experience in an academic setting; specifically with faculty appointment, reappointment, tenure and other personnel actions
- Knowledge of
UNC policies, business processes and systems (ConnectCarolina, PeopleAdmin) |
