Essential Job Duties
We're looking for a skilled and motivated Electrician II to join our team! In this role, you'll have the opportunity to maintain and repair essential electrical systems, equipment, and fixtures across our campus. You'll dive into diagnosing and troubleshooting a variety of building systems-including HVAC, plumbing, and electrical-to ensure our facilities operate safely and efficiently. As a valued team member, you'll perform preventive maintenance, work closely with facilities staff, and uphold safety standards and regulatory compliance. Key responsibilities and duties include but not limited to:

  • Perform installation, maintenance, alteration, and repair of secondary electrical systems and equipment up to 550V

  • Diagnose and repair building systems, including boilers, fan turbines, pumps, condensate receivers, steam lines, expansion joints, pressure reducing stations, and piping insulation
  • Replace and adjust temperature controls, regulators, humidity controllers, and sensors to ensure optimal operation
  • Conduct preventive maintenance on refrigeration and air conditioning equipment following manufacturer specifications
  • Install, maintain, and repair plumbing systems, including cutting, threading, and assembling pipes and testing installations

  • Analyze faults and malfunctions within electrical, HVAC, and plumbing systems and develop effective repair solutions
  • Ensure all work complies with operational safety standards and regulatory requirements
  • Maintain preventive maintenance schedules for HVAC, plumbing, and electrical systems to support campus safety
  • Respond to safety concerns or hazardous situations, wearing appropriate safety equipment as required

Other Responsibilities

  • Participate in quarterly on-call program, carrying a pager for one week at a time. This occurs every ten to fourteen weeks
  • As essential personnel for the University, you may be required to report to work during adverse weather conditions, even if the University is operating on an alternate schedule. This position may also assist with snow and ice removal under the direction of a supervisor
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications


Minimum Experience/Education
High school diploma or equivalency; or demonstrated possession of the competencies necessary to perform the work. Some positions may require special licenses or certification(s).

Optional Guidelines: Experience in the trade(s) areas related to the area of assignment may be substituted on a year-for-year basis.
Other Required Qualifications

  • Able to communicate effectively with supervisors and the general public, and able to understand and follow verbal and written instructions and other communications related to work assignments and other matters
  • Able to lift up to 90 pounds occasionally, with or without reasonable accommodations
  • Experience in the electrical trade

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience in the trades areas of HVAC and plumbing
Required License or Certification
  • Valid North Carolina driver's license is required within 60 days of hire and must be maintained
