Summary:
Reports to the Director Environmental and textile Services. Responsible for managing central laundry services planning organizing and ensuring that optimum laundry and linen services are provided to all Brown University Health affiliates.

Responsibilities:
Manages the effective utilization of resources including people financial and materiel by developing goals and objectives for laundry and linen in conjunction with the Director and the strategic plan for the Brown University Health laundry and linen services.

Serves as a role model to staff by continuously demonstrating the corporate values and principles creating and maintaining effective positive customer service relationships by identifying customers and their needs ensuring that needs are met responding appropriately to difficult interactions and educating all staff on the importance of quality customer service.

Effectively and continually communicates with the staff management and customers to facilitate the flow of information necessary to the success of the employees departments functions and the organizations. Creates employee ownership for their careers and success by providing staff with positive and action oriented feedback to maximize the utilization and potential of the organization's human resources.

Recommends and assists with capital equipment labor and expense budgets related to areas of responsibility and submits to the Director.

Establishes and maintains work standards for the production and distribution of clean textile products throughout the Brown University Health system and recommends to the Director of Environmental Services for approval.

Assists the Director with new procedures as requested writes procedures involving the use of new equipment and writes existing procedures to bring them up to date.

Provides management and working through subordinate supervisors assures the proper collection cleaning inspection finishing and distribution of line. Assigns production schedules to subordinate supervisors to meet the customer's textile and uniform needs.

Works with site affiliate Administration Laundry and Linen Supervisors and assists with the following:

- Evaluating the performance of subordinates counseling and other employee relations matters.

- Resolves unusual situations or those passed on by supervisors directly.

- Scheduling individual work assignments and personnel.

Completes Employee Performance Recognition Summaries on subordinate supervisors and staff and submits to the Director for review.

Conducts meetings with employees to exchange ideas and communicates job related information.

Interviews and selects all laundry personnel in conjunction with the Director. Makes recommendations for selection of supervisory personnel.

Maintains overall responsibility for the training and development of all central laundry personnel and in particular for the development of supervisor's skills.

Prepares records and reports on weekly monthly and annual basis such as linen usage reports work load studies man hour utilization and personnel status reports. Reviews time sheets coordinates vacation scheduling for all personnel on site.

Manages the maintenance of laundry and linen equipment textiles furniture and accessories and assures an adequate inventory of equipment in supply area. Follows up on contract services for equipment maintenance as well as other services.

Consults with vendor representatives oversees the testing and evaluation of new products equipment and services and recommends purchase to the Director. Recommends purchase of replacement items.

Meets regularly with such departments such as Nursing Support Services and Admitting to exchange ideas and information.

Managers daily operations of the Brown University Health Central Laundry and linen delivery to customer sites.

QUALIFICATIONS-EDUCATION:

Bachelor's Degree in Institutional Management or the field of business or Health Care Administration to provide knowledge of management record keeping preparation of reports etc. or equivalent experience.

Supervisory and managerial skills necessary to direct the activities of service (including non-English speaking) and supervisory personnel.

The interpersonal skills to effectively interact with all levels of Hospital personnel.

The knowledge of procedures and techniques necessary to develop standards evaluation of products and so forth

QUALIFICATIONS-EXPERIENCE:

Minimum of four years of progressively more responsible laundry/linen experience including at least two years in a supervisory capacity.

SUPERVISION:

Supervisory responsibility for up to 85 FTEs.
