This position coordinates and supervises high-level accounting and budgetary services across multiple funding sources as part of a team of professionals directing a coordinated, centralized financial management system. We Require
- Three years of work experience in finance, budget development, accounting, or contract and grant management
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field
- An equivalent combination of post-secondary education in Accounting, Finance, or a related field and/or job-related experience may substitute for the minimum qualifications on a year-for-year basis
We Also Value
- Three or more years of experience in finance and/or budget development and maintenance
- Experience supervising finance and accounting staff
- Experience working in governmental accounting and/or grant budgeting
- Experience working with Advantage System, InfoAdvantage, and other financial systems
Job Contributions
- Supervises accounting staff by providing guidance, setting goals and performance measures, evaluating, and coaching to achieve optimum efficiency
- Supervises daily financial operations within the central Budget & Finance unit serving multiple departmental programs
- Manages, monitors, and maintains budgets and expenditures for various grant funding sources
- Oversees the preparation and submittal of contractor expenditure reports (billings to grantors)
- Oversees the reconciliation of accounts receivable and closing of grants per the prescribed contract dates
- Analyzes financial activity and trends and prepares supporting documentation and reports
- Evaluates financial operations and provide recommendations on procedural improvements
- Establishes standardized financial policies and procedures across the area of assignment
- Ensures compliance with applicable policies, procedures, regulations, and laws
Working Conditions
- Within one month of hire, all employees are required to provide evidence of immunity or receive immunizations for vaccine-preventable illnesses for any position within the Maricopa County Department of Public Health; required immunizations include MMR (measles, mumps, rubella), Tdap (whooping cough and diphtheria), Varicella (chickenpox), and annual Influenza; some positions require a Hepatitis B vaccine and/or a Tuberculosis test
- Must possess or have the ability to obtain a valid Arizona driver's license by the time of hire
- Exerting up to 10 lbs. occasionally or negligible weights frequently; sitting most of the time
- The position is typically office or administrative work and is not substantially exposed to adverse environmental conditions
