We are seeking a laboratory Research Assistant in the lab, which focuses on development of Alternatives to Animal Testing. The main area of the research in the laboratory is neurotoxicity and developmental neurotoxicity with link to autism and neurodegeneration. The research is focused on in vitro methods entirely. In particular: development of in vitro 3D brain organotypical cultures (brain organoids), iPSC culture, metabolomics, toxicity testing in brain organoids. International environment.

Specific Duties & Responsibilities

  • The Research Assistant will be responsible for general maintenance of the laboratory such as performing cell culture work, routinely check and order laboratory supplies.
  • The Research Assistant will be working close with PhD and PostDocs in the lab by tacking care of the iPSC, neuroprogenitor and 3D brain organoid cultures, performing immunohistochemisty, RNA isolation and Real-Time PCRs.
  • Basic knowledge on cloning techniques such as CRISPR/Cas9 is desirable.


Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree in related discipline.
  • Additional related experience may substitute for required education, to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula.


Preferred Qualifications
  • BS in Biology, Biochemistry, Pharmacology or a related discipline is desired.
  • Preferably at least one year of work experience in the cell culture laboratory.
  • Cell culture experience (stem cells and organoids in particular), aseptic technique, and basic wet laboratory operations such as RNA isolation, Real-time PCR, and western blot are desired.

Starting Salary Range: $17.20 - $30.30 HRLY ($40,000 targeted; Commensurate with experience)

Schedule: Monday to Friday: 8:30am - 5:00pm
