Summary of Job Duties:Regular duties for the Music Conversion Specialist include converting music-based textbooks, musical scores, and sheet music into MusicXML and accessible alternative formats for students who are low-vision or blind. Familiarity with tactile graphics and braille conversion (text and music) is helpful but not required.

Additional duties may include but are not limited to: communicating with students and professors, scanning textbooks, using a variety of software to convert scans (PDFs) and other course material files into accessible formats. Knowledge of software such as Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Illustrator, and/or MathType is helpful but not required.

Music Conversion Specialists will be tasked with tracking their own work and logging their progress. They may also be asked to assist in other non-music-related conversion, as well as other areas of the CEA at any given time, including assisting the front desk, answering the department phone, and working directly with students in the classroom.

Regular, reliable, and non-disruptive attendance is an essential job duty, as is the ability to maintain collegial, harmonious working relationships with others. Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Current UA student

  • Experience in musical notation, musical scores, and various music formats is required

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with multiple digital music formats - including MusicXML - and music conversion software is preferred

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities (KSAs):

  • Ability and willingness to approach and offer assistance to Lounge guests

  • Ability to be courteous, helpful, and welcoming in appearance, body language, word choice, and behavior

Salary Information:

$14.00 per hour
