About the Job

We are seeking a postdoctoral scholar for an industrially funded project. The research focuses on developing
waterborne polymers with high levels of renewable biomass using renewable nanoparticles in heterogeneous
polymerizations. The goal is to produce high-biomass latexes for coatings, sealants, plastics, films, and adhesives.

Overview of position
Primary responsibilities include synthesizing renewable monomers, polymers, and composites, characterizing raw materials and reaction products, and overseeing product performance testing. The post-doctoral scholar will manage and train undergraduate and graduate students and foster the development of fellow group members.

They will also communicate research findings through publications in peer reviewed journals, presentations at
meetings, writing quarterly reports, and discussions with commercial partners.

Duties/Responsibilities
70% laboratory research
10% training of graduate and undergraduate students
20% writing manuscripts and presentations, and participation in meetings

Qualifications

Required Qualifications

Ph.D. in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Materials Science, Polymer Science, or a related field
Experience in synthesizing and characterizing polymers
Strong written and verbal communication skills

Preferred Qualifications

Expertise in synthetic polymer chemistry, polymer characterization techniques, and mechanical testing of materials
A background in emulsion polymerization and familiarity with cellulose nanocrystals (CNCs) and nanofibrils
Experience with NMR, SEC, DSC, DMA, and TEM is also desirable

Pay and Benefits

Pay Range: $58,484 - $60,000; depending on education/qualifications/experience
