The Opportunity

In this role, the Director of Rooms will work closely with the General Manager to administer the Statler Hotel's vision, mission, and goals. Key responsibilities include overseeing room operations, ensuring guest satisfaction, managing budgets, and leading a team of dedicated hospitality professionals. The Director of Rooms will emphasize diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) in every aspect of their work, collaborating with the General Manager to lead and mentor the team, ensuring effective training, consistent practices, and compliance with Cornell policies. Additionally, the Director of Rooms will assess and implement strategies to align with the Statler Hotel's priorities, advancing our steadfast pursuit of industry-leading hospitality.

What We Need

  • Bachelor's degree in Hospitality Management, Business Administration, or a related field.
  • 3-5 years of progressive experience in hotel operations, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Comprehensive experience in managing room operations, including guest relations, performance management, budgeting, and operational management.
  • Proven track record in fast-paced, high-volume environments, demonstrating adaptability and resilience.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to build and maintain relationships across diverse audiences.
  • Outstanding written and verbal communication skills, with a positive and professional demeanor.
  • Proven ability to deliver outstanding customer service and a commitment to ethical workplace practices.
  • Proficiency in analyzing operational data to inform strategic decisions, with experience in metrics development and reporting.
  • Solid project management skills, with a proactive, solution-oriented approach to executing initiatives.

Employees typically perform this role remotely 1 day per week and on-campus 4 days per week, after the initial onboarding period determined by your supervisor.
