The University of Texas Insect Collection, the second largest in the state, is a premier archive of biological specimens and data. These holdings provide unique and valuable insight on the natural history of Texas, including information about several federally and state endangered species. Purpose

The Curatorial Associate will work with the Curator in the preparation, preservation, data capture, and accessioning of material into the UT Insect Collection, as well as perform other tasks essential to the general operation of the Insect Collection such as managing incoming and outgoing loans, maintaining collection safety procedures, and coordinating activities of external researchers and other visitors to the collection.

Responsibilities
  • Preparing, accessioning, and databasing material in the UT Insect Collection

  • Maintenance of lab supplies, spaces, and safety procedures

  • Data management

  • Specimen imaging

  • Public outreach

Required Qualifications
  • A university-level degree in entomology, biology, museum studies, or a related field that includes credit hours in an entomology class with a collections component.

  • At least 3 months experience in museum collections or entomology.

  • Knowledge of ordinal-level insect taxonomy.

  • Familiarity with the basic functions of natural history collections.

  • Relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.

  • A university-level degree in entomology, biology, museum studies, or a related field that includes credit hours in an entomology class with a collections component.

Salary Range

$29.00 hourly + depending on qualifications

Working Conditions

Work Shift
  • May occasionally require a non-standard work schedule including working long days, weekends and/or holidays.
