Position Description:

Our dynamic team at Medical College of Wisconsin is seeking a post-doctoral researcher to join our group studying mechanisms of urinary pain and disease. The postdoctoral researcher would have the opportunity to lead studies involving signaling between nociceptors and non-neuronal cells in models of interstitial cystitis and bladder pain, as well as work closely with mechanical, electrical, and biological engineers to develop tools to study and eventually treat visceral pain disorders.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design and execute experiments related to currently funded grants on the neural control of bladder function and pain.
  • Analyze and interpret behavioral and physiological data related to bladder function in rodents.
  • Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team to integrate findings into broader research initiatives.
  • Contribute to manuscript writing and present findings at national and international conferences.
  • Assist in the preparation of grant proposals.

Primary Functions

  • The postdoc will lead NIH funded projects in the lab.
  • Plan, design and execute complex research studies, procedures and protocols.
  • Coordinate research study activities; lead and manage projects.
  • Oversee organization, synthesis and analysis of data and findings.
  • Prepare scientific reports, outcome findings and scientific manuscripts.
  • Participate in meetings with principle investigator and research staff in which you will evaluate/interpret the validity of data, develop methodologies, and design and evaluate lab procedures.
  • May oversee the work of laboratory personnel including training and development as well as daily work direction, delegation and establishing priorities.
Knowledge - Skills - Abilities

Experience with cell culture, molecular techniques, immunohistochemical staining, microscopy, is preferred
Experience with handling of laboratory animals and animal behavior is preferred.
Experience with fMRI imaging in rodents is preferred.
Knowledge of biology, chemistry, mathematics, statistics, documentation, records management, data utilization, complex problem solving, critical thinking, resource management, and writing skills.



Preferred Schedule:




Monday-Friday 8:00-5:00 some weekends



Position Requirements:

Minimum Qualifications:

Minimum education: PhD, MD, DO, DVM, or PharmD
Minimum experience: 0-3 years of postdoc experience

Certification: Collaborative IRB Training Initiative (CITI) or similar Human Research Protections Certification and/or Required Animal Laboratory Use or other Biosafety Training to be completed in first month of employment.

Preferred Field of Study: PhD in neuroscience, physiology, biology, biomedical engineering or a related field.
