36 Job Description:

The Lead Pharmacist is responsible to Gundersen Health System (GHS) for the independent operation of a GHS owned pharmacy, and to the State Board of Pharmacy for being the Pharmacist in Charge of the licensed location.

Job Specific functions

Operations Regulatory Compounding, Lead

  • Maintains responsibility for accreditation standards applicable to his/her AOR

  • Collaborates with GHS pharmacy leadership to ensure standards are met across all participating pharmacies

  • Develops and reviews training for pharmacy staff as it relates to AOR

  • Maintains clear channels of communication with pharmacists and other stakeholders to ensure quality service

Specialty, Lead

  • Functions as the senior clinical staff person for GHS specialty services

  • Maintains oversight of clinical decision making aspects of specialty program

  • Maintains responsibility for accreditation standards applicable to the specialty service

  • Collaborates with GHS pharmacy leadership to ensure standards are met across all participating pharmacies

  • Develops and reviews training for pharmacy staff as it relates to accreditation standards ensuring qualified clinicians are accountable to the organization by working with administrative directors to maintain all aspects of program integrity

  • Maintains clear channels of communication with pharmacists and providers to ensure quality service

  • Maintains current unrestricted pharmacy license per accreditation standards

Transitions of care, Lead

  • Maintains responsibility for accreditation standards applicable to his/her AOR

  • Collaborates with GHS pharmacy leadership to ensure standards are met across all participating pharmacies

  • Develops and reviews training for pharmacy staff as it relates to AOR

  • Maintains clear channels of communication with pharmacists and other stakeholders to ensure quality service

  • Develops projects in collaboration with internal and external stakeholders to improve patient continuity across all aspects of the Gundersen Health System

Major Responsibilities:
1. Is competent in providing pharmaceutical care to all patients served, modifying drug therapy as appropriate for the neonatal, pediatric, adult and senior populations.
2. Oversees the day-to-day operations performed by staff.
3. Works with clinical manager to develop and assist with orientation of staff in his/her AOR.
4. Interprets,clarifies, and evaluates appropriateness of providers' medication orders.
5. Maintains adequate inventory of pharmaceuticals and other supplies.
6. Participates in drug education of others within and outside of the pharmacy.
7. Works with and supervises all manufacturing and compounding in the pharmacy.

8. Adheres to regular and predictable attendance.
9. Provides other job-related duties as assigned.

Education and Learning:
REQUIRED
Bachelor's degree in Pharmacy from an accredited School of Pharmacy

Lead Pharmacists working in outpatient pharmacy settings need immunization certification through an accredited organization or school of pharmacy (e.g. APhA, PSW)

DESIRED
Doctor of Pharmacy, PHARMD

Work Experience:
REQUIRED
1 year ambulatory pharmaceutical experience (for clinic/ambulatory practice areas) or hospital pharmaceutical experience (for inpatient practice areas)

DESIRED
3-4 years of supervisor experience

License and Certifications:
REQUIRED

Pharmacist license to practice in the state of employment, some positions may require multiple state licenses

Certified Specialty Pharmacist (CSP) certification is required within 2 years of starting work as a specialty pharmacist

Pharmacists working in outpatient pharmacy settings need A current Infant-Adult Basic Life Support for Health Care Providers (with hands on learning) from one of the following programs; American Heart Association or American Red Cross.
