Summary

The Business Development Specialist plays a vital role in expanding our business by proactively identifying, qualifying, and nurturing new business opportunities. This position is essential to Carolina Cat's growth strategy, as it bridges the gap between marketing and sales through effective lead management and customer engagement. The Business Development Specialist will generate and qualify inbound and outbound leads, identify potential customers, understand their needs, and ensure smooth transitions to the outside sales team across new/used equipment sales, rentals, and OEM parts sales. By organizing an efficient call cycle, promoting dealership services, and accurately updating our CRM, the Business Development Specialist helps to foster customer satisfaction and loyalty. This role requires a proactive, self-motivated individual who thrives on building relationships and exceeding goals to maintain Carolina Cat's competitive edge.

Essential Functions

  • Lead Qualification and Nurturing: Evaluate and qualify leads generated from marketing and customer inquiries, ensuring they meet criteria for further engagement.
  • CRM Management: Maintain up-to-date customer account information, equipment records, and activity logs in the CRM system to ensure accurate tracking and reporting.
  • Proactive Outreach: Engage potential customers through cold calls, emails, and other channels, building rapport and fostering interest in our offerings.
  • Pipeline Reporting: Provide regular updates on lead generation activities, progress within the sales pipeline, and achievement of key performance indicators.
  • Relationship Building: Follow up consistently with leads, nurturing relationships to maintain visibility with potential customers and keep Carolina Cat top-of-mind.
  • Sales Collaboration: Partner closely with the sales team to ensure timely and smooth handoffs of qualified leads, assisting in the seamless transition to the outside sales team.
  • Goal Review and Planning: Participate in weekly meetings with management to review progress toward daily, weekly, and monthly goals and to strategize for continued success.
  • Call Cycle Management: Maintain an organized call cycle that considers the needs and schedules of a diverse customer base.
  • Service Promotion: During customer interactions, highlight Carolina Cat's full range of dealership services, including equipment, rentals, parts, and service.
  • Market Insights: Collect and share feedback from customers and prospects with the marketing and sales teams to inform improvements in our product positioning and messaging.
  • Customer Satisfaction and Onboarding: Ensure warm handoffs for new customers to both the sales and onboarding teams to support a positive customer experience from the beginning of the relationship.
  • Coverage Health Management: Work with sales management to ensure consistent account coverage and follow-through, coordinating account transitions as needed.
  • Continuous Improvement and Training: Participate in training sessions to enhance skills in lead qualification, customer engagement, and other relevant areas.
  • Additional duties may be assigned to support lead management and departmental goals.

Education and/or Experience

  • College or technical degree required.
  • Proven track record in lead management that demonstrates the ability to achieve and exceed goals consistently.

Computer Skills

Knowledge of Microsoft Word/Excel, inventory/order processing software, and contact management systems.

Language Skills

Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.

Mathematical Skills

Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume.

Reasoning Ability

Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
