Senior Metal Bellows (SMB) has been developing custom engineered bellows-based products to meet the needs of some of the world's most demanding industries for over 65 years. SMB's Critical Support Team (CS Team) is responsible for keeping our product flow consistent, solving complex design, manufacturing, and vendor problems, as they flow through our facility. Our customers come to us to develop solutions that are not available anywhere else on the market, so they are not only complex, but can be safety critical. We are seeking a motivated Sr. Manufacturing Engineer to join our Critical Support Team. With our bespoke product designs, you will have the opportunity to be a part of something new and/or continue the legacy of a well-established product, that will be in use for decades across several diverse industries.

Job Summary

Perform complicated and advanced mechanical engineering work on high complexity products, assemblies, and manufacturing processes. Responsible for the overall technical integrity and success of assigned projects of custom edge-welded metal bellows assemblies, accumulators, reservoirs, compressors, as well as many non-bellows products and components. Plan, organize, and lead a variety of technical projects involving the investigation, identification, testing, and evaluation of mechanical and electromechanical components and assemblies for a wide range of applications in compliance with customers' requirements. The role requires a high degree of technical competence, business awareness, and adherence to engineering processes and procedures in order to perform the duties under minimal supervision, and with a high level of autonomy.

What are the key responsibilities?



  1. Troubleshoot and disposition product and process non-conformances through Material Review Board by working from company and customer drawings, specifications, engineering procedures, product routings, and/or process work instructions.
  2. Prepare and submit for approval Engineering Change Orders for both procedure and drawing changes related to product, tooling, and processes.
  3. Periodically review current products and evaluate processes. Determine changes to improve quality and productivity and implement after approval.
  4. Lead and perform detailed failure investigations to determine root cause of internal and external quality issues, and identify/implement recommendations for containment and permanent corrective action
  5. While employing appropriate cost effective measures, determine the required manufacturing processes, equipment, tooling requirements, test procedures and personnel requirements to conduct not only reworks, but salvaging operations.
  6. Prepare technical reports, specifications, procedures, proposals and other documentation for customers and suppliers. Provide both written and oral presentations to customers and suppliers.


What Education and Qualifications are needed for the job?



  • Minimum 8 years relevant manufacturing engineering experience.
  • Proficient in GD&T principles and practices.
  • Project Management Skills.
  • Experience with the following manufacturing processes: Stamping, Cleaning, Machining, Welding, Heat Treatment, Brazing, Hydraulic/Pneumatic testing, Inspection, and Packaging.
  • Strong understanding of the Lean mindset, Six-Sigma principles, and statistical analysis.
  • Excellent collaboration skills to work with operators and cross functional teams to identify root causes and implement robust solutions.
