The Role

We are looking for an analytical and an enthusiastic individual to work on our on our Data Science team as a Senior Data Systems Analyst. In this role, you will report to the Data and Analytics Director or Senior Director and be responsible for leveraging Insurance subject-matter and technical expertise on initiatives that align to the overall Business Intelligence and Data Management vision. You are a self starter, team player, and understand well your business stakeholders problems allowing you to find solutions efficiently. You're comfortable working with a variety of audiences, both within technology as well as those directly in the business. You understand how data flows through a given data models, and are able to help debug issues to find the root issues and necessary solutions

Key Result Areas

  • Understand business challenges and problems and ideate and create solutions using data
  • Provide mentorship to others and share subject-matter expertise
  • Develop project plans and stories for enhancements and/or new report and dashboard build
  • Work closely with Data Engineering team to validate data quality and future data models
  • Debug data issues, tracing issues through data platforms and source systems. Work with Data Engineering and the business to identify data and / or business process solutions
  • Create dataflows and data models by directly accessing data platform
  • Collaborate closely with business stakeholders to understand bugs, change requests, and to triage data quality issues that afflict the business
  • Perform detailed analysis on complex datasets, reports, dashboards, and source data
  • Lead projects related to improving company meta data, master data, and data quality

Key Skills

  • Ability to mentor others, provide suggestions for improvement, and share subject-matter expertise
  • Jira knowledge and usage is a plus
  • Able to use SQL to extract information required for dashboards, reports and analysis' directly from data platform.
  • Ability to triage bugs to understand data quality issues in source systems
  • Databricks experience is a plus
  • Microsoft Power BI or similar visual analytics tool
  • Ability to continuously improve quality of our data
  • Strong critical / analytical thinking and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to quickly analyze and present data in meaningful ways
  • Strong focus on design quality and attention to detail
  • Ability to collaborate with stakeholders with minimal supervision and ensure requirements are fully understood and deliverables meet quality standards
  • Enthusiasm for fast-paced environment, innovation, and learning new software products
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite

Key Qualifications

Education and Experience

  • A Bachelor's degree with 4 years of direct work experience in a Business Intelligence, Data Analytics, or Data Management role or equivalent experience required
  • 3+ years of SQL experience
  • 1+ years using SSRS, Business Objects, or similar reporting tool to create highly formatted reports for external clients and / or regulatory purposes
  • Prior experience with insurance (Underwriting, Claims, Finance, Sales, Brokers, etc) a plus

Travel

Minimal travel (1-2 times per year) required for this position
