About the team:

Grid Operations Reliably operates PGE's transmission and distribution systems in compliance with electric system reliability standards, applicable tariffs and other rules and take actions necessary to protect electrical equipment and ensure public safety.Grid Operations Performance supports PGE's real-time operators with policy, tool, and procedure development, operator training, compliance controls, transmission scheduling, and other functions. We help operators maintain employee and public safety, continuity of power, and the reliability of the Western Interconnection.

About the role:

Grid Operations Specialists provide direct support to real time grid operations personnel by ensuring they have the proper tools, procedures, and training to preserve the safety of personnel and the security of the Western Interconnection. They rely on their broad knowledge and experience to implement effective solutions to a wide variety of problems.

This role is essential for managing the increasing complexity of our grid operations, particularly as we integrate more distributed energy resources and participate in new market structures. The specialist ensures smooth operation of our DERMS/VPP systems, EDAM participation, and compliance with FERC 881 regulations.

This position requires significant experience in Balancing Authority operations, collaborative ability and the ability to influence without authority. This work is often project-based.

Responsibilities

  • Process Improvements: Provides operational expertise in the development of and continuous improvements to SCC System Operator internal and external situational awareness tools, alarming, processes, procedures; collects feedback to identify, review, develop and implement needed changes based upon priorities; develops and proctors training material including classroom, computer-based training and simulation in coordination with the SCC System Operator Trainer; reviews, tests, and configures software applications used by Grid Operations; leads projects involving multiple groups to improve PGE operational excellence; coordinates and resolves escalated real-time issues raised by other team members; works on and leads other projects as needed.

  • Internal/External Coordination: Coordinates with other teams within Grid; represents Grid Operations within PGE; communicates with external entities; provides individuals or small groups with tours of the SCC.

  • Projects: Leads or participates in projects developing systems and applications used in the Control Center, including identifying overall business objectives, business requirements and user acceptance criteria. Develop classroom, computer-based training, and simulation training material in coordination with the SCC System Operator Trainer. Provides technical support as assigned.

  • Consultation: Serves as a department subject matter expert providing technical assistance. Provides training or assists in training SCC System Operators.

Qualifications

  • Education Requires a bachelor's degree in computer science, electrical engineering, information systems or relevant field of study or equivalent experience.

  • Experience Typically, eight or more years in Balancing Authority and/or Transmission Operator real-time operations.

  • Certifications, Licenses and Training NERC System Operator certification preferred.

Preferred:

  • Balance Area Operations experience as well as experience with EMS, OATI applications and PI data analysis

  • Advanced knowledge of systems used in department.

  • Advanced skills in relationship building.

  • Advanced knowledge of systems administration principles.

  • Working knowledge of coding and programming languages.

  • Advanced skills in facilitation.

  • Advanced knowledge of laws and regulations related to department operations.

Schedule/Attendance

  • Ability to adhere to pre-established schedule, including start/stop time and break/lunch schedule

  • Ability to report to work and perform work during periods of severe inclement weather

  • Ability to consistently meet attendance standards for regular, reliable, predictable, full-time attendance

  • Ability to work shift schedule Ability to work on-call schedule

Physical Capabilities

  • Driving/travel/commute: Daily within service territory - Occasionally (one to two times a month or less)

  • Computer use (use computer regularly for entire work shift)

Environment- Indoor/Outdoor:

  • Office

Compensation Range:

$113,925.00 - $189,875.00

Actual total compensation, including a performance based incentive bonus, is commensurate with experience, skills, qualifications, education, training, and internal equity. While we anticipate the selected candidate for this position will fall towards the middle or entry point of the compensation range, the decision will be made on a case-by-case basis.
