Job Summary

Serves as a junior product and project manager in the development of information technology documentation and user guides for the various IT applications. Research and review the various GIS line-of-business applications to determine what documentation is needed in alignment with industry-best-practices. Provide project coordination and communication between IT and GIS Program staff. Develops project plans, sets timelines, and monitors deliverables to ensure on-time completion. Manages dependencies, prioritizes tasks, resolves development conflicts, and escalates issues as necessary. Perform research using online and other resources to review new and existing software applications and vendors and develop recommendations on application and vendor selection.

This role will provide the following experience:

  • Knowledge and understanding of how various IT business applications integrate
  • Understanding of software solutions and how they can be used to improve business processes
  • Working with GIS staff, internal users, and customers to determine how they interact with software and computer applications
  • Develop an understanding of information technology and systems architecture and integrations
  • Utilize tools to evaluate information and support informed business decision-making
  • Develop project management skills
  • Develop communication skills while working with a variety of users across GIS

Projects and Tasks

  • Research and review the various IT applications and line of business portals (myCerts, ICP and EOLCS portals, the Standards Development Portal, myCommittees, etc.) that support the GIS programs. This includes engaging with GIS program and IT staff through interviews and meetings, as well as analyzing existing documentation.
  • Applying industry best practices, develop a process and framework for the development, retention, and communication of application and user documentation. Including decisions on what is needed based on user, business, and IT needs.
  • Develop up-to-date information technology documentation. This will involve documenting, compiling and updating existing user guides, architecture diagrams, etc.
  • Review and research software applications and tools to determine what tools will work best for GIS program applications. This can include developing value assessments based on user, business and IT needs, maintenance costs, etc.
  • Assist the GIS Artificial Intelligence (AI) Team with research on current tools, technology, and applications to support our work on proof-of-concept AI projects.
  • Assist with data analysis and reporting by gathering, organizing, and interpreting data to support business insights and decision-making. Contribute to the creation of reports and dashboards to track key performance metrics.

Qualifications

  • Working on a degree in information systems, information technology, software-computer systems engineering or business systems or related field
  • Shows interest in information technology, software or IT systems-application engineering and project-product management.
  • Experience working independently to draft documents, diagrams, and project-type documentation.
  • Experience working independently on diverse projects and deliverables in a deadline-oriented environment.
  • Experience with Microsoft applications especially Word, Teams (and related apps), Excel and SharePoint with an aptitude to learn other computer programs quickly.
  • Knowledge and understanding of project management practices.
  • Experience communicating and coordinating across teams to achieve desired outcomes.
  • Familiarity with software development methodologies and applications such as MS Azure DevOps.

Physical Requirements

  • Able to remain in a stationary position working on a computer
  • Move about the office to access office machinery, meeting rooms, etc.
  • Operate a computer and other office machinery such as printers and copy machines
  • Transport items and equipment up to 25 lbs. on occasion
