Chief Information Officer

The Chief Information Officer (CIO) will be responsible for overseeing the information technology (IT) strategy and implementation across all locations of our professional services consulting firm. This role reports directly to the Chief Executive Officer and the selected candidate will be a member of CEC's executive team. The role involves managing IT resources, ensuring data security, and leveraging technology to drive innovation and efficiency and will oversee the IT Infrastructure, IT systems, development, design technology, electronic data management, and enterprise GIS functions for the organization. Due to the sustained growth of our 1,500 employee firm, we are seeking an experienced leader as the organization's first CIO to help it continue to scale.

Key Responsibilities

Technology Strategy & Innovation

In collaboration with executive leadership, develop and implement a comprehensive IT strategy aligned with CEC's overall business objectives.
• Regularly evaluate and update the IT strategy to ensure alignment with evolving business goals and technological advancements
• Identify, evaluate, and drive technology solutions and innovations that provide a competitive advantage, improve efficiency, and support sustainable growth.
• Partner with executive leadership to assess and introduce digital capabilities that improve service delivery and client experience.
• Champion the development of a company-wide artificial intelligence (AI) business strategy to guide the evaluation, implementation and usage of AI supported applications across the business.

Team Leadership & Development

• Lead and continue to build a high-performing IT team, fostering an environment of innovation, accountability, and continuous learning.
• Mentor and develop IT staff to support their growth and align skills with emerging technology needs.
• Promote cross-functional collaboration, to maximize technology's impact on operations.

IT Infrastructure Management

• Oversee the development, management, and security of the firm's IT infrastructure across multiple locations.
• Implement systems and processes to ensure scalability, resilience, and compliance with industry standards.
• Drive the integration and alignment of digital tools and platforms to support project-based operations.

Cybersecurity & Risk Management

• Establish and lead a robust cybersecurity framework to protect sensitive data, intellectual property, and client information.
• Conduct regular risk assessments, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements and industry standards.
• Collaborate with internal stakeholders to implement disaster recovery and business continuity plans.
• Completion of 3^rd party risk assessments.

Data Analytics & Information Management

• Enable data-driven decision making by supporting implementation of advanced data analytics, reporting tools, and data governance practices.
• Lead the design and deployment of data management systems that optimize engineering workflows, resource allocation, and client project delivery.
• Work with the executive leadership team to foster a data-centric culture, promoting the use of analytics across business functions for improved performance and client insights.

Vendor & Stakeholder Management

• Work with existing IT management to manage relationships with external technology vendors, negotiate contracts, oversee service delivery, and ensure alignment with business goals.
• Partner with internal stakeholders to identify and prioritize IT needs across the organization, balancing both strategic and operational requirements.

• Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field; Master's degree preferred.
• Minimum 10 years of experience in IT leadership, with a proven track record in professional services or engineering consulting environments strongly preferred.
• Demonstrated experience in IT strategy development, cybersecurity, and data analytics.
• Excellent leadership, communication, and project management skills.
• Strong understanding of regulatory requirements and best practices in cybersecurity, IT compliance, and data management.

Note: This role will be based in our Pittsburgh headquarters. It is not available as a fully remote position.
