Position Summary

Join our dynamic team as a Mechanical Engineer and become a vital contributor to support NASA as an Oceaneering Teammate on the JSC Engineering, Technology, and Science (JETS) II contract. As an integral part of our organization, you'll play a crucial role in the Facility and Test Management section in the Operations and Test Department on the NASA JSC Engineering, Technology and Science II (JETS II) Contract.

Someone in this role would typically have a Bachelor's degree in Engineering and a minimum of five (5) years of experience. This position can be hired at any level in our professional career framework, depending on business need at the time of hire.

**International travel may be required. Straight time overtime, 9/80 work schedule (every other Friday off), and/or 1 day of telework per week may be available**

Duties & Responsibilities

Some of your major responsibilities will include:

* Work in a team environment to analyze requirements from customers and develop design solutions.
* Design, develop, test, implement, and analyze technical products and systems.
* Perform engineering designs and evaluations for thermal vacuum space simulation testing.
* Produce engineering drawings conforming to JPR 8500 and other applicable standards.
* Ability to troubleshoot facility systems and or components and instruct technicians on repair solutions.
* Collaborate with NASA Pressure Systems to complete Pressure Systems Design Reviews. 5 year experience is desired.
* 5 years of direct work with ASME B31.3 Process piping and ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessels is desired.
* 5 years of Design, Installation and acceptance testing of ground based oxygen systems, is desired.
* Prepare and present designs at various engineering design reviews.
* Prepare work authorizing documents (WADs) required to support the installation of hardware into human in the loop vacuum/thermal vacuum chambers.
* Apply engineering principles and techniques to create solutions to equipment, building, and infrastructure challenges.
* Prepare engineering specifications, statements of work, and estimates for a wide range of facility related projects.
* Prepare, submit & track all phases of procurement, inspection, fabrication & installation into the facility and test chambers.
* Coordinate and lead Mechanical Engineering designers, stress engineers and drawing checkers to complete detailed fabrication drawings.
* Express good leadership qualities be highly motivated, well organized, and capable of working within a closely-knit team.
* Ability to oversee and direct technicians while performing installation or fabrication of engineering products.
* Perform other duties as required based on Qualifications

Qualifications

Required

* A BS Engineering degree from an accredited engineering school and a minimum of five (5) years of related experience
* Ability to visualize and work with complex mechanical systems and work with others in problem solving as part of a team.
* Ability to coordinate in a team environment to meet project milestone design reviews and integration
* Maintain configuration control for all phases of project.
* Ability to develop a design based on Concept of Operations or established requirements in a fast paced work environment.
* Able to interpret and modify Facility Process and Instrumentation Drawings (P&ID).
* Knowledgeable and experienced in the following: MS Office Suite, MS Project, AutoCAD, Inventor or Creo or other similar CAD Software packages.
* Familiar with Facility Systems operations and maintenance.
* Familiarization with Liquid Nitrogen, Helium, and Oxygen Systems
* Ability to organize and prioritize tasks to meet deadlines and schedules with limited supervision.
* Ability to respond well to the demands of working in a Thermal Vacuum Testing environment.
* Shift work may be required to cover Test Operations.
* Ability to communicate, build relationships, be proactive, and work with a team.
* Excellent oral and written communication skills Preferences
* Familiarization with Johnson Space Center (JSC) organizations, processes, and procedures
* Develop and maintain MS Project schedules and report the status to the project manager
* Presentation skills are required..

Preferred

* Knowledgeable with NASA training provided Fire Hazards in Oxygen Systems course.
* Experience with NASA's Engineering Drawing System Manual, JPR 8500.4 is a plus
* Design of mechanisms or Life Support Systems interfacing with Space Suit and Space Suit Systems is a plus.
* CAD Software experience, AUTOCAD, CREO, SOLIDWORKS, INVENTOR

Proof of U.S. Citizenship or US Permanent Residency is a requirement for this position.
Must be able to complete a U.S. government background investigation.
Management has the prerogative to select at any level for which the position is advertised.

Additional Information

This position is Hybrid - Remote and will require commuting to a designated office. Hybrid work schedules are determined by the hiring manager based on business need.
