Field and Lab Manager sought for Interdisciplinary Polar and Oceanographic Science & Technology Research Program

The Planetary Habitability and Technology research group at the Cornell Center for Astrophysics and Planetary Science is seeking an engaged and experienced individual to serve as a field program manager to join an ongoing interdisciplinary planetary, polar and ocean research program as a Research Support Specialist III. The successful applicant will join a vibrant team of scientists and engineers to work in the areas below. We value individuals who are collaborative, communicative, and creative, and who are interested in outreach. This work includes AUV/ROV under ice and ocean vehicle development and deployment, roles in managing international activities and program management. Prior remotefieldwork experienceisrequired, and prior polar experience is highly desirable. Experiencewithairborneprograms,underwater vehicles, instrumentation development and deployment, or biological sampling, analysis and laboratory techniques is highly desirable. The ideal candidate will hold a PhD degree in a related discipline, but exceptional candidates with less advanced degrees will be considered.

The individual must be able to physically qualify for and attend potentially long (several months) deployments to polar regions including Antarctica several times in the coming few years. The ability to work and contribute in close teams is a requirement for the position. Engagement in spacecraft teams and other collaborations is possible, and those interested in growing in their respective fields are particularly encouraged.

Experience and/or interest in some of the following areas is desired:

- Hardware development and/or troubleshooting

- Field activity coordination

- Field data acquisition and analysis

- Remote sensing

- Ocean/Ice/Limnology/Planetary/Surface processes

- Data processing

- Signal Processing (especially sonar)

- Sensor and data integration

- Robotics / Autonomy

- Biogeochemical/Microbial analyses

Salary will be commensurate with experience and education. Start date is desired by February 25, but the position will remain open until filled and arrangements can be made for the right candidate.
