WORK SCHEDULE: Position requires an employee to work between 20-25 hours per week during the school semesters, and 40 hours per week during summer, not to exceed 1,500 hours in a calendar year. Each semester, undergraduate students must be enrolled in at least 12 credit hours and graduate students must be enrolled in at least 6 credit hours. INTERN GUIDELINES: Must be enrolled full-time in a degree seeking program. A student's intern position will end within three months after graduation. PURPOSE OF POSITION: Under the direction of the Supervisor-Leak Control & Corrosion Protection or designee, and in coordination with the Corrosion Technicians, the employee shall perform the necessary duties of the Corrosion Protection group to ensure that the goals and functions of the section and the department are carried out. The employee shall perform any and all technical work as may be deemed necessary by the supervisor in the day-to-day operation of the department's business. ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: 1. Performs corrosion surveys using corrosion pipeline industry instruments such as electrical measuring instruments, electronic locator equipment, and various other tools. Takes pipe to soil potential readings, checks for electrically shorts, and performs visual inspection of natural gas facilities. 2. Logs inspection data utilizing hardware and software provided by City Utilities. 3. Paints natural gas meter sets and other facilities as designated per City Utilities' specifications. 4. Performs other related duties as assigned by Supervisor or designee. QUALIFICATIONS: Education and Experience: High school graduate or equivalent is required. Must be enrolled in college or technical school. Previous work experience preferred. Licensing/Certification: Must have a valid driver's license (minimum Class F). Subject to Department of Transportation's and/or Public Service Commission's drug testing requirements and Gas Operator Qualification requirements. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: * Working knowledge of electrical concepts and problem-solving techniques. Physical Requirements: Physical requirements include: sitting, standing, grasping, bending, squatting, balancing, twisting, kneeling, pushing, pulling, crawling, and climbing. Must be able to enter, work in, and exit restricted areas (including, but not limited to, areas under porches and decks). Working Conditions: Primarily outside field work in varying weather conditions. A portion of time will be spent in a normal office environment. Safety Sensitive Position: A safety-sensitive position involves the performance of duties which may have a direct and immediate impact on the safety of the public and other public employees.
