Position Title: Packer II Location: A504 - Plug Plant - Hartselle, AL Base Pay Rate: $20.44 /hour Shift: 12 hour - Nights Job Summary: Position responsible for operating the high-speed packaging lines. The operator will also be required to perform basic maintenance on the equipment as well as do simple repairs to keep up production.
Job Responsibilities: 1) Operates the high-speed line by starting up the machines and adjusting them according to specifications provided. 2) Maintains a safe working environment, complies with safety regulations and wears required personal protective equipment. 3) Troubleshoots problems on the line such as mechanical issues, jams, or other issues that may arise. 4) Performs preventative maintenance on the line by cleaning, inspecting, and replacing parts to maintain the high-speed line's performance. 5) Completes basic repairs of the high-speed line including changing of worn out parts, adjusting, and lubricating moving parts. 6) Participates in continuous improvement activities to reduce waste, improve quality, increase productivity, and eliminate downtime. 7) Communicates effectively with team members and management regarding concerns, discrepancies, and continuous improvement ideas. 8) Complies with all regulatory requirements and internal policies related to food safety, environmental, and workplace safety. 9) Works cooperatively with others to ensure smooth operation of the entire plant. 10) Adheres to established work instructions, standard operating procedures, and FSMA/GMP guidelines.
Job Qualifications: Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities 1) Must have strong communication skills and interpersonal skills to communicate with team members and management. 2) Possess knowledge of problem solving techniques, critical thinking, decision making, and root cause analysis. 3) Demonstrates initiative, self-confidence, and leadership abilities. 4) Work independently with little supervision in a fast paced manufacturing environment. 5) Be able to read, write, comprehend, and interpret documents in English. 6) Have computer literacy and intermediate math skills. 7) Be able to lift 50 pounds occasionally and frequently move 20-30 pounds. 8) Be able to stand and walk throughout the day. 9) Have good vision, hand strength, agility, and dexterity. 10) Be able to discern colors or use of color correction glasses. Experience 1) High school diploma or general education degree (GED). 2) Previous experience in manufacturing or similar industry preferred. 3) Lean Manufacturing training preferred. Machines, Tools, and Equipment 1) High speed packaging line equipment. 2) Pallet dispensers. 3) Pallet wrappers. 4) Hand trucks. 5) Internal combustion forklifts. 6) Welding equipment. 7) Basic hand tools - wrenches, screwdrivers, pliers, etc. 8) Computer keyboard, mouse, and monitor. Environmental Demands: 1) Exposure to noise, vibration, heat, cold, chemicals, greases, and lubricants. Physical and Visual Activities/Demands: Standing, walking, bending, reaching, pushing, pulling, reading, writing and talking. Lifting, Carrying, Pushing, Pulling * Objects of various weights and dimensions.
