https://hr.uams.edu/immigration-services/ Summary of Job Duties:The Senior Immigration Specialist, along with the Immigration Services team, provides assistance, resources and advice on immigration-related employment issues and topics to the UAMS community. Primary responsibilities consist of immigration case management and advising, education and outreach to campus departments regarding immigration processes and regulations, and data maintenance and regulatory compliance. Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree, plus four (4) years' immigration advising, international student or scholar advising, and/or paralegal experience.

  • Comprehensive knowledge of immigration/employment related laws, regulations, and procedures, such as H-1B, J-1, F-1 or permanent residence cases.

  • Excellent customer service skills, including the ability to communicate effectively in writing and verbally with diverse customer base.

  • Strong attention to detail, with superior writing, research, analytical and communication skills.

  • Experience in Microsoft Office Suite.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master's degree

  • Prior experience drafting and filing H-1B petitions strongly preferred.

  • Experience with H-1B, J-1 research scholar, J-1 Physician, and permanent residence regulations and processes.

  • Experience with Workday, SEVIS, Sprintax Calculus or other nonresident alien tax software, and immigration case management systems.

  • Experience working in a higher education setting.

Additional Information:

Responsibilities

Immigration Case Management

  • Serve as primary H-1B adviser; independently draft, review, and submit Labor Condition Applications to DOL and petition forms to USCIS for employer-sponsored visa processes, including H-1B, E-3 and TN; evaluate details on prospective cases to identify and address potential issues

  • Monitor the progress of immigration cases and communicate with department and employee to address delays or respond to RFEs; continually improve workflows for regulatory compliance and greater efficiency

  • Serve as Alternate Responsible Officer (ARO) for J-1 Scholars and Training Program Liaison (TPL) for J-1 Physician programs; Update J-1 records in relevant systems, such as SEVIS and EVNet systems, and assist with J-1 program coordination

  • Research, interpret and understand complex immigration issues and regulations, and provide clear guidance to departments and employees accordingly

Consultation & Education

  • Educate and advise hiring departments, candidates and employees on immigration regulations and policy changes through meetings, presentations, online trainings, and other means

  • Meet individually with candidates, employees, or hiring departments to answer immigration questions and provide strategic immigration options to hire and retain international employees

  • Maintain immigration-related webpages on UAMS website, and update documents and presentations with accurate and timely information;

  • Respond to immigration-related questions, and provide immigration software assistance to departments and employees

Data Maintenance & Compliance

  • Ensure institutional compliance with USCIS regulations and work authorization expirations; Maintain and periodically audit employee data in various internal systems, including Immigration Tracker and Workday

  • Assist with onboarding of foreign national new hires by completing the Form I-9 process
