Dr. Sagar Khare in the Department of Chemistry and Chemical Biology and Institute for Quantitative Biomedicine ( IQB) at Rutgers University is seeking applications for a postdoctoral associate position from highly skilled and motivated individuals with expertise in one or more of the following areas:
- Yeast surface display-based protein engineering
- High-throughput protein expression and assays using robotics-based liquid handling
- Deep learning-based methods development for protein design and engineering.
Involvement will be in various funded projects on protein design, and in collaboration with colleagues at Rutgers in Chemical and Biochemical Engineering, and Electrical and Computer Engineering, among others. There will be freedom to develop new side-projects in the broad area of protein design and engineering. The start date is flexible, but preference will be given to candidates who can begin immediately.

Minimum Education and Experience
Applicants must have a PhD in biophysics, physics, chemistry, chemical engineering, biology, bioengineering, electrical engineering or related disciplines. Research experience in at least one of the followings is preferred: computational protein design, directed evolution, protein bbiophysics, enzyme characterization, and structural biology techniques.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Proficiency in high-level programming language (e.g., C++, Python) is essential.
One or more of the following technical expertise are strongly preferred: deep working knowledge and experience in using deep learning software for protein design; enzyme kinetics characterization; and structural biology. The candidates are expected to be capable of conducting not only independent research but also collaborative works in interdisciplinary teamwork environment. Proficiency in both written and oral communication skills in English is required for manuscripts/grants preparation, public presentation, and collaboration with other lab members.
Equipment Utilized
The candidate will be provided with research opportunity to utilize and develop software for protein design, use protein expression and characterization. In addition, state-of-the-art equipment, such as cryo-EM, NMR, and mass spectrometry, is readily available by way of in-house core facilities of IQB in which Khare lab is located. IQB is also the world headquarter of the Research Collaboratory for Structural Bioinformatics ( RCSB) consortium and the Protein Data Bank ( PDB), providing distinctively creative and vibrant interdisciplinary research environment together with neighboring institutes such as Center for Advanced Biotechnology and Medicine ( CABM), Robert Wood Johnson Medical School, and Waksman Institute.
