Overview

The Simulator Senior Specialist is responsible for the support, configuration, maintenance, and enhancement of Gas Control'sGas Transmission System digital twin pipeline model simulator to support the continued safe and reliable operation of the Company's gas transportation system through real-time realistic training environments and scenarios in a fault tolerant environment.The individual collaborates with multi-discipline teams, including Gas Engineering, Gas System Operators, SCADA support personnel, vendors, and other enterprise members, to capture system modifications and ensure data integrity across digital environments. They implement changes through consistent Management of Change processes to maintain a high-fidelity training environment. Additionally, the specialist uses pipeline simulation software to consult on potential system contingencies, pre-planning of field execution work packages, system behavior investigations, and IP-9 procedures. Working closely with the Senior Gas System Operator, the specialist helps develop a best-in-class controller training program in Gas Control and adds value to cross-commodity operations.

Responsibilities

Core Responsibilities
  • Develop, configure, and maintain the SCADA Twin simulator to replicate real-world scenarios.
  • Create and provide reports to identify work completed, outstanding and remaining as well as other reports to supervisors and managers.
  • Design and implement SCADA system architectures and interfaces.
  • Perform regular system updates, backups, and maintenance to ensure system integrity and performance.
  • Perform transmission studies in support of Control Center activities, capital projects, etc.
  • Performs analysis and reconciliation of internal records reviews, to identify areas of improvement as well as future review schedules.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve issues related to the SCADA Twin simulator and associated systems.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate the SCADA Twin simulator with other systems and technologies.
  • Conduct training sessions for Operators and clients on the use and capabilities of the SCADA Twin simulator.
  • Stay updated with the latest industry trends and technologies to continuously improve the SCADA Twin simulator.
  • Promote best practices including cybersecurity and follow procedures and guidelines to ensure complete compliance with the regulatory requirements.
  • Perform other related tasks and assignments as required.

Qualifications

Required Education/Experience
  • Bachelor's Degree ABET accredited institution in Computer Science, Mechanical, Civil, or Chemical Engineering or similar and 3 years full time relevant experience in process control or Oil & Gas industries with knowledge of hydraulics, automation, modeling, measurement/instrumentation, and/or SCADA or
  • Associate's Degree Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, Math, Business and 4 years full time relevant experience in process control or Oil & Gas industries with knowledge of hydraulics, automation, modeling, measurement/instrumentation, and/or SCADA or
  • High School Diploma/GED and 5 years full time relevant experience in in process control or Oil & Gas industries with knowledge of hydraulics, automation, modeling, measurement/instrumentation, and/or SCADA.
Preferred Education/Experience
  • Bachelor's Degree ABET accredited institution in Computer Science, Mechanical, Civil, or Chemical Engineering or similar and 3 years full time relevant experience in process control or Oil & Gas industries with knowledge of hydraulics, automation, modeling, measurement/instrumentation, and/or SCADA.
Relevant Work Experience
  • Computer and Mathematical proficiency. Required
  • Must demonstrate a high energy level, personal accountability, teamwork, customer focus, excellence and values. Required
  • Possess a demonstrated knowledge of Engineering principles and theories. Required
  • Must pass background security check. Required
  • Understanding of energy utility industry and knowledge of fluid dynamics and mechanics. Required
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills. Ability to translate functional requirements into technical information. Proficient in developing documentation for users of diverse backgrounds and skills. Required
  • Experience with AutoCAD and/or Visio. Required
  • Must be proficient in Microsoft Office including Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint, etc. Required
  • Knowledge in hydraulics, automation, leak detection technologies, modeling, statistical analysis, measurement/instrumentation, and SCADA and how to configure, tune and maintain advanced leak detection systems in a dynamic Control Center environment. Preferred
  • Direct gas transmission/distribution systems operation and gas transportation knowledge and work experience preferred. Experience with pipeline design, operations, and procedures. Preferred
  • Knowledge and experience with instrumentation, process control, and associated automation. Preferred
  • Knowledge and/or application experience with industry standards (DOT 49CFR192, API, ASME, ANSI, NACE, NEC, etc.). Preferred
  • Detailed knowledge of GDO, Enterprise SCADA, AVEVA Oasys DNA, Synergi, WinFlow, NextGen and Stoner analysis, SimSuite or equivalents. Preferred
  • Experience in developing applications and/or databases with 1 or more the following technologies/competencies Microsoft .Net (VB, C#):Microsoft, SQL Server development (supported versions). Preferred
  • Structured Query Language (SQL), SSIS or SSRS; Business Analysis. Preferred
  • Knowledge of Linux/Unix, Windows System Management, client/server technology, TCP/IP, cybersecurity, project management and working in a regulated cyber environment. Preferred

Additional Physical Demands
  • Must be able to respond to Company emergencies by performing a System Emergency Assignment to restore service to our customers.
  • Field activities may include walking to and amidst work and/or construction sites, working around heavy or loud equipment.
  • Must be willing and able to travel within Company service territory, as needed.
