Job Description: You will be working closely with the Sustainability Director and the leaders at Pitt Eats developing skills and competencies to understand what is needed to succeed in the sustainability world. You will gain valuable experience in the following areas: operations, administration, guest services, problem resolution, planning and implementation of innovation, and client relationship skills. This internship involves hands-on experience with sustainability, which will guide you in your personal career growth.

  • Food justice/sovereignty and food insecurity

  • Carbon Footprint and Labeling
  • Food supply chain
  • Farm worker's rights
  • Animal's rights

Job Responsibilities (May include any or all):

  • Coordinate sustainable initiatives and events
  • Storytelling sharing metric-backed stories with reporting entities (e.g. AASHE STARS, GRA, etc.)
  • Maintain Babylon hydroponic units (germinating, planting, harvesting)
  • Food Insecurity and Recovery Network initiatives
  • Sustainable event planning
  • Waste auditing
  • Research and analysis of sustainable best practices
  • Results analysis: preparing metric-backed stories for Business Reviews and other touch points
  • Training dining team and students on sustainable initiatives and programs
  • Present findings in reports and presentations
  • Working with local and student organizations to implement and lead sustainability initiatives
  • Coordinate Real Food Challenge initiatives

  • Demonstrate awareness, understanding and skills necessary to work in a diverse environment.
  • Experience opportunities to learn, observe, and practice a variety of experiences in the world of sustainability.
Job Summary

This position is paid, but not eligible for benefits such as medical, relocation, or housing.

Because this position requires you to perform services in an educational facility, there may be periods when the Company does not require you to perform work (such as winter and summer breaks when food service needs decline or cease). Any such periods during which you do not perform work on the Company's behalf may be unpaid and deemed a temporary layoff. However, depending on business needs, you may be required to work year-round, potentially at a different location during break periods. Business needs may vary from year to year.
