Principal Project Engineer

Saab Inc., Land Systems division is seeking an experienced, dynamic, results-oriented Principal Project Engineer to lead engineering activities for weapon systems development, maturation, and production. Besides extensive, multi-discipline weapon system engineering knowledge and experience, this position will require the ability to operate in multi-company, multi-layered, multi-cultural, rapidly paced environment. The Principal Project Engineer will actively interact with the customer, partner and suppliers' leadership, engineering, and production, as well as the internal company, division and program leadership, engineering, process, test, quality, supply chain, reliability, finance, and manufacturing teams.

The position will require leading teams of multi-discipline engineers through the full product lifecycle, including the product development, maturation, production establishment, full-rate production support, obsolescence and supply issues, and future spiral development and applications.

Travel is required, both domestic and international. Currently the position can be remote home office with travel; relocation may be required to the future division location.

Responsibilities include:

• Support company's and division strategic technical and business path by applying engineering and business best practices, incorporating technology trends to the product development, maturation, sustainment, and driving future developments.

• Drive planning and execution of engineering efforts, in all phases of the product life cycle, in terms of scope, cost, and schedule.

• Interface with customers, external and internal program leadership, engineering, operations, business development, program capture, supply chain, quality, finance, security, export control and other relevant functions to support product maturation, production, and spiral development.

• Identify gaps and opportunities in product capabilities, processes, production, employment, and sustainment and provide solutions to reduce associated risks, including verification and test strategies. Identify and implement strategic process improvement initiatives. Implement new technological solutions to identified capability gaps, including intellectual property retention and capture.

• Lead "project of projects" efforts that require technical management of multiple interdependent development efforts through other Project engineers.

• Lead multi-discipline engineering teams and provide functional management, including hiring, individual performance development, and compensation reviews. Own and maintain engineering team performance matrix, including manpower planning and staffing.

• Actively participate in the change control board meetings, failure investigations, product management, technical, production, risk management and performance reviews.

• Actively support proposal efforts, for both technical content creation and reviewing. Actively help to craft winning proposal strategies.

• Provide mentoring and broad technical guidance, viewed as an expert, in the field of precision fires weapon systems.

• Multi-task and provide support to other organizational efforts and teams.

Compensation Range: $154,300-$204,500

The compensation range provided is a general guideline. When extending an offer, Saab, Inc. considers factors including (but not limited to) the role and associated responsibilities, location, and market and business considerations, as well as the candidate's work experience, key skills, and education/training.

Required Experience and Skills:

• Bachelor of Science in Engineering with minimum 20 years of relevant experience, or Master of Science in Engineering with 18 years of relevant experience, or Philosophy Doctor in Engineering with 16 years of relevant experience.

• Experience in weapon systems (missiles, munitions, and platforms in land, sea, and air domains) concepts of operation, architecture, design, manufacturing, integration, test, production, and life cycle sustainment.

• Working experience with DoD and industry engineering processes, procedures, requirements, tools, and practices.

• Working knowledge of multi-discipline product requirements, architecture, design, manufacture, verification, integration, and test, including planning and execution experience over the product life cycle.

• Engineering and engineering leadership skills through all phases of multi-discipline product cycle, including conceptualization, design, integration, verification, test, production, and sustainment.

• Effective communications with leadership, program management, subordinates, and peers, both domestically and internationally, ability to operate in highly demanding multi-cultural environment.

• U.S. citizenship and ability to obtain DoD Secret clearance (active clearance preferred).

• International and domestic travel is required, at least 30%.

Desired Experience and Skills:

• First-hand experience with ground forces (U.S. Army, U.S. Marine Corp., etc.) weapon systems and operations.

• Hands-on experience with the full-rate production support, including quality management, product improvement, obsolescence issues and supplier quality improvements.

• First-hand experience with energetic systems, both propulsion and target defeat, including the latest standard compliance.
