Job Summary:

The Senior Director for Quality and Safety will coordinate and lead organization-wide efforts to improve clinical quality, patient safety, patient experience, regulatory compliance, and external quality reporting. Scope of responsibility includes MaineHealth inpatient, hospital outpatient, and physician practice settings. In collaboration with the local senior leadership team, the Senior Director for Quality and Safety will coordinate and lead organization-wide efforts to: ensure that the quality of clinical care meets evidence-based guidelines and best practices, improve systems of care delivery to eliminate preventable harm, measure and improve patient experience, ensure compliance with regulatory and accreditation standards, support internal and external performance measurement and reporting, appropriately handle patient complaints and grievances, and foster a culture of continuous performance improvement across the organization. The Senior Director for Quality and Safety will supervise a team of qualified professionals responsible for helping the organization achieve quality and safety related annual goals and objectives. Other responsibilities include collaborating with relevant stakeholders in planning and decision-making related to quality and safety.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

1. Education: Bachelor's degree from four-year college or university in an accredited RN program or equivalent clinical program; Master's degree preferred.

2. License/Certifications: Certification as a Certified Professional in Healthcare Quality (CPHQ) strongly preferred.

3. Experience: At least five years of experience related to clinical quality and patient safety.

4. Familiarity with clinical quality measurement and reporting required.

5. Familiarity with patient safety reporting software required.

6. Familiarity with electronic health records and clinical decision support required.

7. Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.

8. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical information in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.

9. One to two years demonstrated leadership competence or equivalent combination of education and experience.

10. Self-directed and self-motivated with a firm understanding of leadership role; proven track record of motivating others to improve clinical quality and patient safety.

11. Effective communicator with the ability to create strong partnerships; able to serve as a role model through professional behavior and open, direct communication.
