Job Summary
The Director, Project Controls will be responsible for providing leadership, tactical direction and general manager for all project controls and document control functions. Reporting to the President, the position is accountable for establishing and maintaining effective and efficient processes, procedures, internal controls, objectives and strategic plans to optimize operational and financial performance. The Director is responsible for ensuring functional resources are delivering quality work products, on schedule and budget and prioritizing the work and knows when to act with a sense of urgency. Recognizing each industry and client requires an adaptable approach, this position is required to exercise judgment in conjunction with managers and operations to ensure the needs for the project are met. This position is also responsible for working with functional supervisors and managers to ensure the team is trained and mentored.
Essential Functions

Company Leadership

  • Establishes and maintains discipline strategy, mission, and goals. Guides discipline leaders and staff to these goals, and clarifies, communicates, and endorses organizational strategy and goals to all departmental employees.
  • Interacts with leaders in other Matrix Service Company subsidiaries to assure their team is supporting the larger business and addressing any needed improvements.
  • Foster and further develop a success and results-oriented culture.
  • Participates in and supports Company-wide initiatives.
  • Provide strategic leadership and seek out continuous improvement activities to advance the capabilities and technology of the Company toward the achievement of the organization's overall strategic goals.
  • Champions PDM's Strategy in other subsidiaries.


            Functional Leadership



            • Leads succession and employee development efforts to assure longer term demands of the Company for their functional area are met. Acts as a coach and mentor to direct and indirect team members.
            • Interviews, hires, trains, evaluates and terminates subordinate personnel. Establishes department and individual goals/objectives and directs, and actively participates as necessary, subordinate personnel in achievement of responsibilities and objectives.
            • Directs Team's efforts in support of proposal schedule development, project budget set-up, project planning and scheduling, forecasting, and cost control. Oversees earned value preparation, percent complete and productivity measurement tools.
            • Direct the preparation and presentation of project performance, cash flow projections, etc., to supporting the Company's strategic and business plans.
            • Leads the development, implementation, training of best practices and execution of all estimating, cost control, cost reporting, progress (earned value), scheduling, and document control processes, procedures, and systems.
            • Ensures project managers, senior management and estimators are trained on project controls systems, procedures, and tools.
            • Interfaces with the client's Project Controls Group to provide required cost and schedule reports, as needed.
            • Identifies, recommends, and directs the implement of enhanced project controls throughout the Company with a focus on larger projects to support growth and superior project performance.
            • Ensures the development and implementation of project controls policies, manuals, and standard operating procedures to support all eastern business unit operations.
            • Interfaces with corporate office to define site projects reporting structure and monthly reporting requirements.
            • Oversees the document control system to ensure it meets the projects requirements as well as client / company policies and procedures.


              Business Leadership



              • Maintains a positive work atmosphere by acting and communicating in a manner that inspires and engages clients, co-workers, and management.
              • Directly manage Functional Supervisors and Managers in a collaborative manner, driving results, while developing strong relationships.
              • Provides technical oversight on projects executed across the department; serving as the managerial lead with strong technical capability.
              • Works with construction resources to align work product outputs with input requirements.
              • Supports Company-wide Business Development efforts as needed.
              • Routinely reviews and speaks to project performance metrics for their functions.
              • Communicates a strong sense of urgency about solving problems and getting work done.
              • Performs other duties as required or assigned.


                  Qualifications

                  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Construction, or a related field; or equivalent combination of education/ experience in lieu of a degree.
                  • 12 + years of experience in construction processes, including 5+ years leadership experience.
                  • Demonstrated strong leadership skills and experience.
                  • Strong computer skills required, including Microsoft Office Suite; experience with Primavera, Hexagon or other EDMS software.
                  • Must be able to work independently and cooperatively.
                  • Strong analytical skills, interpersonal skills, and must be able to work well with others.
                  • Ability to develop and implement new ideas and initiatives that improve the organization's performance. Coaches others to develop stronger change management skills and overcomes resistance to change.
                  • Ability to prioritize projects, work with multiple deadlines, and lead the team to work on multiple projects.
                  • Ability to travel as necessary.
